Our demands to the JCIT & the BOS are as follows:
1️⃣ Provide a REAL timeline, with benchmarks for the closure of Men’s Central Jail
2️⃣ NO FUNDING for research, planning, or building a new jail- that money belongs to community!
3️⃣ Reopen the investigation of John Horton III’s death.
MCJ is Los Angeles’ largest and oldest jail & harbors deputy gangs within its walls that harm our loved ones. The MCJ Closure Report outlined a roadmap for closure within 18-24 months - yet five years later the County has NOT taken ANY steps to effectively close MCJ.
Monday, March 30th marks the FIVE YEAR ANNIVERSARY of the Board of Supervisor’s approving the Men’s Central Jail (MCJ) Closure Report, and the 16th angelversary of John Horton the 3rd who was murdered inside MCJ by Deputy gangs.

There have now been 12 deaths in LASD custody this year. This is over double the number of year-to-date deaths as last year, and is second only to 2021 for year-to-date deaths for the past 20 years.
Many of us will still be attending the meeting tomorrow to demand accountability.
