I also don’t think it’s unique to any fandom, really. I think maybe part of that expectation mismanagement is on us (well, me, in this case) kiiiind of accepting the premise that people’s consumer habits are an expression of their values, which seems wrong-headed.
It’s like how you can read a lot about driving, but only driving makes you a better driver. You gotta get out and do it. Fandoms of stories in the ballpark of UwU are kinda like that. They like a lot of material about goodness, but who knows if anybody’s actually gotten any practice.
“Why are fans of this thoughtful story/show/property about people striving to be good so toxic—” well some of ‘em haven’t gotten out much so they mostly understand all that goodness theoretically while in practice they kinda remain jerks
this looks like a damn zine fair flyer
Man, LAX’s shuttle system sucks, but I do remember the alternative being worse so 💀
The reason I say “Sweet Baby Inc is a team of Writers & Narrative Designers” so often, is because even people who support us are often under the impression that we are sensitivity consultants.
Sensitivity consultants are great, but again, Sweet Baby Inc is a team of Writers & Narrative Designers.
I wish swift financial hardship on everyone who calls crowd funding “begging” or “panhandling”.
So! Cool!

Totally! And it’s always this same formula. Crafting artificial hills on which people can die.
I don’t wanna be dismissive of it. I really want to suss it out. The explanation that it’s actually an outgrowth of pop YA instead of either romance or fantasy went a long way in shaping my understanding of romantasy.
I think this might be one of those discourses carried over from Threads where they have bots craft this precise kind of pointless rage-bait to boost the app’s engagement among its users.
Thank you!
Oh that’s a great explanation!
That Anne McCaffrey blurb is a nice little gold stamp for me!
Let me know if you have any recommendations! I don’t think I can appreciate the genre without experiencing where its strengths are.
