Ugh, substack.
You can see the differences in their bone structure too. Bean has that broad square-shaped leonine sort of face, like Ron Perlman in Beauty and the Beast, and Garbanzo is all narrow and V-shaped.
Big and handsome and soft. He still meeps instead of meowing tho. We took him to the vet to check up on a potential issue (it was nothing) and he did meow in unhappiness because he didn't like the cat carrier.
But usually he makes the tiniest little squeaks.
A very small black-and-white kitten sleeping on a bed, with a human hand held up to him for scale. He has surprisingly big mitten paws, though, which foreshadow his adult size.
Two cats sleeping on top of a reptile terrarium. (The reptile in question does not care about the cats being there). The cat on the left is black-and-white and HUGE. Massive. Not fat, just very large. The cat on the right is a normal-sized orange-and-white cat, and he has placed his paws on his companion. They are both lying on their sides in mirrored poses.
How it started vs how it's going.
You are in good company. When I was at the pet store the beardies and tortoises LOVED them some collards. LOVED.
Their current diet:
Freeze-dried mealworms
dead dubias, superworms, and mealworms from my breeding bins (I feed the live ones to reptiles)
A soy-hull based shrimp food
A kelp based shrimp food
Hikari crab pellets
Some of the greens I feed my roaches
Mineral supplement for crustaceans
The babies have gotten bigger and a couple of them are starting to purple up. I have spied even tinier babies lurking around. I guess the circle of life continues.
I continue to feed them well and change their water every once in a while. (20% water change.)
The next day. Both bodies are gone.
Instead I have two empty molts and two girl crabs hanging out next to my golden-eyed casanova crabe dude, who looks like he'd smoke a cigarette if he had one.
"Oh."
As it turns out vampire crabs can look REALLY DEAD when they're molting.
@jopabinia.bsky.social: No photos, but this will amuse you.
A couple days ago I found two crabs lying carapace-down, belly up in the substrate of my paludarium. They had started to turn white.
"Oh no," I thought. "Well, it's been 2.5 years, they might've gotten old and died."
Poppy Z. Brite: what if the mushrooms were gay?
or, Poppy Z. Brite later on: What if the mushrooms were culinary and someone opened a theme mushroom restaurant that was also cover for skulduggery?
(Jar of caviar, sorry. Not sufficiently caffeinated yet.)
Meanwhile: Dean Koontz is scratching his head over his credit card statement while a pair of adorable field mice and a stoat are puzzling over how to open the can of caviar they just got from Wegmans.
Brian Jacques, from the dollhouse: What if you lived in a mushroom?
Dude, I was born in and grew up in Singapore.
Man, Mr. Billy, I've found you again! (Mel Wong from the old LJ days. Sent you a bunch of Singaporean food in a care package once!)

The nice thing about an acid marinade is you only need a few minutes to an hour — too long and it becomes tough instead of tender.
Try marinating them in something tart before browning and braising them — I just made some cochinita pibil (modifying for the lack of a piib — earth oven) and keeping the meat in a recado of spices and Seville orange juice for an hour made it tender as heck.
I don't care how many of you love Harlan Ellison, I hated him from the start, ever since I read one of his short stories which was one of the most misogynistic things on the face of the earth. And I grew up Evangelical.
(The Face of Helene Bournouw, if you must know).
Since everyone who knows my #science is sending me this article: YEP, THEM KIDS GOT RHABDOMYOLYSIS-INDUCED ACUTE KIDNEY INJURY! And their risks for Stroke, Hypertention, Reproductive Risk, Demetia, and Death (SHReDD) just skyrocketed. GOOD JOB, ASSHOLE COACHES.

100% of awful is better than 0% of perfect.
Get it on the page, then you can improve it. But if you never put anything down then there's nothing there, and if you get hit by a toilet seat from a decommissioned space station then it might never even have existed.
Spite fate. Write it anyway.
Controversial opinion:
I feel like the genre of cyberpunk (literature-wise) is basically: "Those bad things that happen to brown people because of white people's economic interests? those things should not be happening to white people. WHY IS IT HAPPENING TO US?!"

This is the tech and research RFK Jr’s HHS is trying to eliminate. mRNA vaccines have tremendous life-saving potential that’s being squandered.
'She also documented how few women were in federally sponsored clinical trials for AIDS drugs...
That was significant, she told The San Francisco Chronicle, because “the clinical trials are the only way you can get treatment.”' Long helped save so many lives.
