A weird thing is that whenever I post criticism of Al, the majority of the people agreeing with me seem to be leftists. It's pretty much the only position I hold that seems to be more popular with the left than the right. It should be the opposite. My whole point about Al (especially Al in creative fields) is that it isn't human, it doesn't have a soul, and we cannot surrender our society to an unhuman soulless algorithm even if it makes our lives easier in some ways. It's very strange that an argument predicated on the existence of the soul resonates with the left while conservatives tend to scoff at it.

Mark Carney wants the fantasy of AI to be reality, despite the evidence it’s not coming, but ignores how AI creates an antisocial world where more people suffer mental health challenges, do not think critically, are addicted to screens, have their work degraded, and can’t tell fact from fiction.

Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau at Coachella
Orbán Viktor @PM_ViktorOrban Had a great meeting today with @IDUAlliance Chairman @stephenharper. International cooperation between right-wing, conservative parties is more important than ever. Chairman Harper is a great ally in this respect. Thank you for your support, Mr. Chairman!

It's kinda interesting to think about how differently Justin Trudeau and Stephen Harper have spent their retirement years

I don't know how to explain to the people who pop up when creatives complain about "AI" to say there are legit uses for it just how much they sound like someone saying "Well actually fire is used to make bread" when people are talking about an organized arson ring burning down their fucking houses

I'm struck by the number of modes of transit these astronauts will experience today.
1. Slicing through the Earth's atmosphere in a spaceship
2. An inflatable raft
3. A rope swing
4. Helicopter
5 Aircraft carrier
6. Airplane.
7. Van.

Crescent (partially illuminated) Moon and Earth facing the Sun. The Sun is just out of frame to the right leaving flares of light reaching out toward the left.
NASA/Artemis II/Kevin M. Gill
This might be one of my favorites from Artemis II. A cinematic alignment of the Moon and Earth, each cradled within the warmth of sunbeams.
Taken from behind the Moon on April 6th.

To open the glove box in a Polestar 3 requires three touches of the in dash tablet. The glove box does not have a normal mechanical release. This is better for us how?

WTF is up with yongeTOmorrow?
A blog about cycling and political advocacy based in Toronto, Canada. (#BikeTO)
Good @rzaichkowski.bsky.social post about the latest news on the plan for downtown Yonge Street. It’s been pushed back and scaled down, with an earlier proposal for “pedestrian priority zones” removed. Compromise defeats ambition, again.

Doug Ford targets Peel to test his water privatization plan
Doug Ford targets Peel to test his water privatization plan
This has been an absolute, total, disaster in Britain. Doug Ford hasn't made his case, to anyone. Not to you, the citizen. Not to the legislature. It is also the sort of project that once embarked on is difficult to undo. #onpoli #cdnpoli

At first, as a Canadian, this post from Parker Molloy made me really angry. The USA is not doing enough.
But she's right. Wrote to Prime Minister Mark Carney to express my outrage and fear, and my hope that he and other NATO leaders can take some sort of action.

Realizing that some of my inexplicable sadness about the Artemis II stuff is that it feels like a trans-dimensional communication from an America that took a different path and chose joy instead of fear and hate.

Earth and Moon from DSCOVR
NASA's Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera (EPIC) aboard the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) satellite captured this unique view of the Moon as it…
Some discussion on Artemis II broadcast about how dark the Moon is compared to Earth. Here's a really nice look at the two together from the same camera -- the Moon isn't white, it's dark brown www.planetary.org/space-images...

The juxtaposition of the atrocities the US is currently carrying out all over the place with NASA's current Artemis II mission is stark. Watching the Orion crew go around the moon right now is so inspiring. More of this please. Less of everything else.

Shawn Micallef: Doug Ford can’t seem to get out of his own way with his on-the-fly plans for Toronto’s waterfront
Making Toronto work calls for long-term, thoughtful planning — which is not what the province’s premier has been doing with his waterfront ideas.
In @thestar.com I write about Doug Ford stepping on Doug Ford. Long made plans at risk. Ford’s whims & back-of-the-napkin policy making (or thinking) doesn’t allow for the type of long-term success Toronto needs, especially at an important & interconnected place like the waterfront.
