“… scientific studies have shown that beavers improve water quality, stabilise water flows during times of drought and flood, and give a huge boost to habitats and to other wildlife. Given the climate and nature crises, we need beavers back in the wild to give us a hand to resolve these challenges.”

“Action is the antidote to despair”
Anyone have any favorite charities focused on either equity issues or conservation (or both!) that could use some resources right now?
Hey science friends?
I know that many of you are concerned about the perceived neutral and apolitical role of science in decisionmaking.
But scientists are being targeted. We didn't start it.
And advocating *for the role of scientific evidence in policymaking* is not unprofessional advocacy.
If you’re a federal govt employee targeted for leave or termination on the basis of your DEI work, please file an EEO (Equal Employment Opportunity) complaint & retain legal counsel.
I’m a former NIH PI. Happy to refer you to a law firm that has successfully sued the govt many times!

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are all good things. They don’t happen automatically, we have to actively work to bring them about. Shout it from the rooftops.
I’ve been hiking the past few days to find some stillness and in the midst of all the chaos and disarray going on in society and I’m reminded that humans much like animals have the capacity to be resilient and weather the storms that come. I’m always inspired by the adaptiveness of nature. 1/ 🌎
In the coming days/months/years, don’t “yuck on people’s yum” here if you can avoid it. I know it feels trite seeing folks post their cute cats or jokes with friends in the midst of horrors unfolding.

I think many people forget that recruitment is just a small part of the story, and retainment/ inclusion need just as much (if not more) sustained effort
