Years ago I bought a mantel clock from a catalog which ended up being 4 inches tall. Ever since that fiasco, I check dimensions.

It certainly is. 😍
That’s a depressing photo. All those green deserts lined up. 😩

On a sunny day earlier this week, a Common Grackle was standing on a wood railing with its wing facing straight down and resting on the railing.
Thank you, Cyndie. The lighting was perfect and it didn’t move. 😊
A male Red Bellied Woodpecker, with its bright red cap catching the early evening sun. It’s on a large limb of an oak tree that is showing some swelling nubs of spring growth.
I guess this Red Bellied Woodpecker was enjoying the early evening sun because it perched in the oak tree for nearly half an hour. #birds #nature
Unintended consequences we can hope for.

Thank you, M. When I look at your beautiful photos, I can feel my heart rate slowing. A gift during these turbulent times.
An Eastern Bluebird perched on the crook that holds the bird feeders. It’s snowing.
A male house finch on a snow covered wood railing.
Yesterday’s snow brought a lot of birds to the feeders. All the species get along, with the birds patiently waiting their turn. #birds #maryland
Kay, I bought one from Prairie Moon a couple of years ago. It’s getting to be a nice size and many different types of bees seem to love it. I keep thinking I’ll try rooting some cuttings, but that hasn’t happened so far.

If I sat very still, Mr Chippy would climb onto my lap, sit in the palm of my hand, and stuff his cheeks with the sunflower seeds I held, and then dash off. ☺️
I agree 💯! We had a friendly Mr Chippy too.
They certainly are adorable, Cindy.
A chipmunk is standing upright on a block wall, with snow beyond it.
We’ve been in this house for 5 years, and the chipmunks have finally found us. A chipmunk always makes me smile. 😊 #nature #maryland
So sweet. ⛄️
It is, M. It’s been back a few times. It’s unusual for us to have snow cover and ice for such a long time.
A red shouldered hawk is standing in a saucer of water with snow all around.
Even hawks appreciate a saucer of water. A red-tailed hawk, I think. #birds #hawks #maryland #nature
I’m not sure policy helps with this, but community involvement certainly would. Rather than sitting home complaining that the snow/ice isn’t being cleared away quickly enough, he acted. Bravo to this person.
On my road, it took multiple passes of plows and more than one visit. Also, there are 5,000 lane miles. People don’t shovel their sidewalks. I took a walk today and it was almost impossible to walk. Should kids walk in the roads because the sidewalks aren’t cleared?
If you’re talking about MCPS, there are 211 public schools in the county, over 2,000 miles of road, and who knows how many miles of sidewalks that kids who walk to school have to walk on. It all takes time. You can’t compare this area to Buffalo, or wherever.
My husband shoveling snow from around the fire hydrant across the street.
Don’t forget to shovel snow away from fire hydrants. A fire doubles in size every minute. You don’t want firefighters spending precious minutes getting access to a fire hydrant when your house, or a neighbor’s house is on fire.

Ignorance is bliss.

We rarely see a red-breasted nuthatch but this one showed up for Christmas morning breakfast. #birds #maryland #projectfeederwatch
