this whole sick pay debacle is so fun bc I'm apparently out of time to take but boy does this cold not care about corporate limitations and rules

Happy 20 years of Neil banging out the tunes ๐๐ถ๐
Rather troubling that the president is so unwell as to be promoting AI-induced visions of himself as Jesus while beefing with the pope, but itโs made even more bizarre because itโs happening while the VP is Catholic and saying nothing
the *actual photos* are so much cooler bc they show just how many people it took to recover integrity and her crew
the flotation devices were on top and there was a ring around the bottom to stabilize the craft. also there were many more people in a much larger "front porch" and integrity itself was not nearly as charred. please be careful of ai fakes.
Now on @sciam.bsky.social: See the Artemis II mission in 12 unforgettable photos. Can't say I disagree with any of these selections!

The capsule splashing down onto the water with the three red and white parachutes above it
Splashdown! Vehicle is stable and upright. โA perfect bulls-eye splash for Integrity and its four astronauts!โ #Artemis

The President of the USA declaring that "a whole civilisation will die tonight" is not something that arrives out of a vacuum. It is precipitated by the widespread international failure to hold USA, Israel, and their allies including the UK, accountable for their actions for many decades
In Korea, when the president declared martial law after midnight and erected barricades in Seoul, congressional reps from all parties ran into the streets, yanked ak47s from the army at the barricades, broke down the locked door to Congress, repealed the martial law order, and arrested the president
Oh this is great: thereโs now an #Artemis II Lunar Flyby Gallery on the NASA images site: www.nasa.gov/gallery/luna... (thx @dpmanchee.bsky.social for pointing it out)
Realizing that some of my inexplicable sadness about the Artemis II stuff is that it feels like a trans-dimensional communication from an America that took a different path and chose joy instead of fear and hate.
#Artemis II astronaut Reid Wisemanโs wife Carroll was taken by cancer a few years ago. Just now, as the crew broke the record for furthest human journey from Earth, he asked for a lunar feature to be named after her. The crew gave him a zero-g group hug and honestly Iโm getting a bit emotional here.
Christina Kochโs facial profile backlit by Earth in the background, through the spacecraft window
So, to sum up, a couple of days ago Christina Koch became the first woman to see Earth in its entirety, and today โ right now, in fact โ she is the first woman to see the Moon up close, and the first woman to see the far side. ๐ฅน
This morning's wake up call was a good reminder that sometimes we just need to enjoy the good things when they're happening :)
For the people who missed it
I've started saying "please read to me what it says on the screen" and it seems to make people slow down and actually pay attention instead of getting annoyed with me
I think a lot of my frustrations at work stem from the fact that the adults in my life taught me critical thinking as a kid, but they themselves don't utilize it

I went back to capture what the astronauts said in full when the clock was stopped at T-10 minutes and they were asked if they were go for launch:
This is Victor. We are going for our families.
This is Christina. We are going for our teammates.
This is Jeremy. We are going for all humanity.
Can we have a ruling on whether #Artemis II is
(a) "a mission to the Moon"
or do we have to say
(b) "a lunar flyby"
just because they're not landing?
I say (a) is okay: they're definitely going to the Moon! And past it! They're just not touching down.
Wait. You can just say "we might infringe on your rights" in your Terms Of Service?
haha OOF

@attie.ai, for those who wanna press the funny buttons too
I guess boycotting Harry Potter feels pretty trivial to me, because I'm an adult. if someone told me I shouldn't eat Gerber's baby food, I'd be like, that is no problem. I'm way ahead of you
