Let me say this plainly: Iranian children have as much of a right to live and thrive as American children.
Their babies MUST be as precious to me as my 6 niblings and my baby grandnib are IF I want them to have a future.
If I want a future for my kin AND humanity, I MUST act like it.
So must you.
Any episode where the parents get any kind of affirmation that they are doing their best/everything will be okay gets me. It seems like there aren’t near enough shows with positive messages like that. And I have found that I need to be told that “it’ll all work out” a lot more as an adult.
That is probably a good system! The demographics are also important to note and definitely play a part in circulation. I am in a fairly rural area with primarily white patrons. So Christian fiction is quite popular (Colleen Coble, Janette Oke, Lynn Austin).
Manga is also wildly popular.
But to answer your question, I don’t really know for sure what that gap is. I am also pretty new to the job. But Movie/TV adaptations, word of mouth, and librarian recs seem to be big drivers for getting books in people’s hands quickly.
PHM started to get lots of attention in the weeks leading up to the movie’s release. It also seems to have gotten readers more interested in scifi. Freida McFadden’s books have been circulating a LOT since the release of The Housemaid movie. When they come in they are usually going right back out.
Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord is proving once again that some of the deepest storytelling, best action, and most complex character arcs happen in animation. It’s carrying the torch lit by The Clone Wars and Rebels with absolute perfection.
Cannot wait to see where this show goes.
one of the best things about the library is you can pick up a random book based on title or cover and, if you hate it, it’s no big deal.
and a person who will love that book you hated will find it someday.
It also goes without saying that Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir has a long holds list.

It’s SO good. And every now and then I end up in tears.
