UPDATE: I was in the mood for Thai food after this post, and tried a new place — Daughter Thai in the Rockridge district of Oakland. Can’t vouch for authenticity, since I haven’t yet been to Thailand, but it was quite good…flavorful and good quality ingredients

I guess the haters did become the waiters, after all
if you can swing something a little fancy, make a reservation at Millennium in Oakland, as they are closing next month and it’s been one of my favorite places for years
It’s a vegan restaurant. I’m not even close to being vegan but I’ve had great meals there, and highly recommend the experience
Hmm…to be honest, most of the Thai places we order from/go to are in the general “good, but no surprises” category. I’ve heard Farmhouse in Jack London Square (Oakland) is solid, but probably doesn’t have the authenticity you are looking for
Marnee Thai is also good but that’s in SF
No, but I’m happy to give you some restaurant recommendations!
I’m sure RFK Jr has some thoughts on this
This era may be stupid and horrific, but at least we might get an interesting Assassin’s Creed game out of it
INLAND EMPIRE: You know, the first stop is always Revachol
Can’t wait for you to get to the Shining miniseries remake:
PLUS: Somewhat more faithful to the book
MINUS: Stars the guy from the sitcom “Wings” and seemingly had a budget of $5,000. Oh yeah: faithful or not, it’s competing against Stanley effing Kubrick
That’s a good one
The one to the right of the scary Norse god seems to be a Bioshock Big Daddy
Maybe special forces soldiers, but I choose to believe they are the Big Daddy from Bioshock
Uh…why is Jesus Trump laying hands on Jeffrey Epstein’s corpse
Holy shit — knowing what band it was just makes it 100x funnier
Like getting tear-gassed at an Enya concert
I’ve heard this quote before, but damn…feels so incredibly relevant now
Top concert memory for me was seeing Sigur Ros at the Berkeley Greek Theater in the mid 00s — they were playing this one as their last song, and it started raining in perfect time to the buildup. By the time they reached the climax, it was pouring. Couldn’t have planned it any more perfectly.
Moment is at 8:27

Fuck it, I’m doing another one:
“Moya” by Godspeed You! Black Emperor, at the moment where the track finally transitions from its long, epic buildup stage. Like when a rollercoaster pauses at the top of the track before plummeting into the unknown, and you’re just hanging on as best you can
Check it about 4 minutes in. Sadly, the single version trims most of this out, so here’s the album track:
The arpeggiated synth line in New Order’s “Round & Round” when it gets all tweaky and filtered toward the end of the song.
I remember getting Technique on cassette when I was 15, listening to it for the first time on headphones, and literally feeling like my brain was being twisted.
He’s not a bad guy, really…he just got down on his luck and his [slur] ex-wife won’t get off his case
New Trashcan Man dialogue, yelled as he transports the nuke back to Vegas: “I celeBRATE…his entire CATALOG!!!”
Even in the 90s, this guy made a terrible Randall Flagg. Is he the charismatic personification of evil, or the guy who picks up odd jobs at the marina and plays bass in a Jimmy Buffet cover band?
Won’t someone think of Rod Dreher in these difficult times
I, for one, am shocked that the author of Hillbilly Elegy wasn’t able to pull this off
NEIGHBORS (HBO, Documentary, 2026)
After Garfield and Nermal are involved in a heist gone wrong at Arbuckle Plaza, Garfield must become the city’s hero while dealing with the unpredictable uploaded personality of Heathcliff
I have to go back on the exchange after my current employer-subsidized health coverage ends, and even a mid-level silver plan will cost me over $1,100 a month.
Like you said, nuts.
Did he give a shout out to the family?
