Sometimes when I lay an idea out I realize that it's not baked enough, and leaving the doc to sit sorta "ferments" the ideas until I can come back with fresh eyes.
I legit get great ideas from that delay period, but it becomes a very easy pitfall to slack off lol.
I actually just started collaborating! Mouse In Manse was my first team game, with Karu.
Working on another collab game rn, too. It has its own challenges but I want to do it more in the future.
I've been jumping between 3 docs that I REALLY like right now. The hard part there is that I do like 10 hours of work on one, then rewrite another, make a demo for the third, then back to making assets for the first again-
Gotta narrow down the focus, I spose.
I really do recommend making a design doc for a large project. An outline of the story, the mechanics, the feel and tone of your game. It can help a lot!
The biggest trapping, for me at least, seems to be that it makes you realize your scope is too large and unattainable.
Over the years I've written like 6 design documents for games that I ultimately didn't choose to keep working on.
I think it's kinda natural to discard a lot of your work, but occasionally I read through them and wish I could bring them to fruition in some form.
Was sick in bed so I programmed these tiny guys to fight each other till only one remained.
I'll be using this to pick my commissions from here on tbh
