The lateral prefrontal cortex of primates encodes stimulus colors and their behavioral relevance during a match-to-sample task - Scientific Reports Scientific Reports - The lateral prefrontal cortex of primates encodes stimulus colors and their behavioral relevance during a match-to-sample task

"we show that [the lateral prefrontal areas] 8Av/45 encodes the color of a visual stimulus, regardless of its behavioral relevance."

Exciting work by @kevingoneill.github.io to extend / rewrite the HMetad toolbox in R and STAN 🥳

We supercharge meta-d modeling within a bayesian regression framework, wrapped in a user-friendly R package with bespoke plotting tools (+ a new principled measure of metacognitive bias, meta-delta!)

20 lessons in team science: Learning from the experience of the International Brain Laboratory Leveraging large-scale neuroscience datasets requires new collaborative approaches. The International Brain Laboratory (IBL) is a distributed, open-science experiment facing these challenges. To succeed, IBL developed methods for shared decision-making, division of labor, authorship/credit assignment, career support, standardization, and robust data analysis. The International Brain Laboratory et al. share these lessons learned to benefit other collaborative scientific efforts.

a while back i threatened to share this. finally online

for detection tasks we often systematically estimates sensitivity wrong. we need to control for unequal variance in models, but we often don't coz it needs extra data

now there's a virtually 'free' way to do it

DecNefLab: A Modular and Interpretable Simulation Framework for Decoded Neurofeedback

DecNef is a powerful tool for brain modulation, but it remains difficult to optimize; we built DecNefLab, a simulation framework using “virtual subjs” as ML generative models to prototype protocols before exps, & showed conditions in which DecNef fails to induce learning

Perceptual confidence has near perfect access to the existence of discrete representations, but only weak access to precision - PubMed Perceptual confidence describes the degree to which we believe our internal perceptual representations reflect the external stimuli that caused them. How confidence is derived from internal representations is currently debated, but answering this question is made difficult because the nature of inte …

Glad to see my first-year project is out!

In two experiments, we manipulated multiple stimulus features in a perception task, yet their effects on confidence and accuracy fell into just two distinct behavioral patterns, offering a way to predict the effects of novel stimulus manipulations.

Fast and robust visual object recognition in young children The visual recognition abilities of preschool children rival those of state-of-the-art artificial intelligence models.

My paper with @stellalourenco.bsky.social ‬is now out in Science Advances!

We found that children have robust object recognition abilities that surpass many ANNs. Models only outperformed kids when their training far exceeded what a child could experience in their lifetime

1/Preprint Alert🔔: Across two experiments plus a computational model, we show the visual system compresses complex scenes into summary statistics that can guide behavior without conscious access to the task-defining features. We term this the Ensemble Blindsight effect.
