Jagger reportedly wrote the lyrics in Brixton prison following his conviction on drug charges in June 1967.
"This is one of Brian's standout moments on Satanic - his ethereal mellotron creating those mesmerising cold, glacial sheets of sound..."

"If it wasn't for the astonishing quality of the A-side, the superb 'Plastic Fantastic Lover' on the other side of the record would garner adulation as a great record in its own right."
"It's just about a TV set."

Elliot was a much beloved figure among musicians in the psychedelic sixties. Top rock stars, American and British, would congregate at her home in Laurel Canyon, to hang out and get high.

Without record company support, the Span took matters into their own hands, privately funding a single that appeared on 16 February 1968 on the Jewel label ... The single was pressed in a quantity of 500 copies.

“The man who comes back through the Door in the Wall will never be quite the same ... humbler in acknowledging his ignorance yet better equipped to understand the relationship of words to things, of systematic reasoning to the unfathomable mystery which it tries, forever vainly, to comprehend”
"At that time, I went by the name SunStar and I was SunStar in the World Peace band. But when I found YaHoWha, he gave me the name Sunlight to balance the energies, so I felt as Sunlight I was now coming back again, but with new energies."

Sometime in the mid-sixties a pixie with black curls and a guitar slung around his neck showed up at record business player Simon Napier Bell's London residence and asked him to manage his career. Bell took on the job.
The tapes sat in his basement 'til 1981 when Bell dusted them off...

“As his songwriting became more interesting, it also became more sort of weird and psychotic,” Jenner says. “It wasn’t what the record company wanted.”

The single was to have been released on 5 December 1969. The Beatles or EMI may have objected to the move, and the project was shelved, although a press release from Apple did claim that the single would feature John and Yoko with “many of the greatest show business names of today."

...quite a change in sound for the band. Draped with loud electric guitar, a goofy piano-led tempo that seemed to speed up and slow down, aggressive drums, and oddly processed backing vocals, 'Electric Stories' actually rocked, though in an off-kilter way that made for uneasy listening.

Who can resist Cook's dismissals of, "I don't love you, leave me alone/I'm self-contained/You fill me with inertia," as Moore implores backing vocalists to drown him in adoration?

The Theatre of Eternal Music (later sometimes called The Dream Syndicate) was an avant-garde musical group formed by La Monte Young in New York City in 1962.
This is not that.

“We played for Hollywood producers on this big ship. We emptied out the trophy room; we took the 5-foot model of the ship and tried to stick it in the back of our van while the party was going on, but our manager caught us and made us put it back."

Before joining Thunderclap Newman, Keen shared a flat with and worked as a driver for Pete Townshend. He wrote 'Armenia City in the Sky', which was included on the album 'The Who Sell Out'. This was the only song The Who ever performed that was specifically written for the group by a non-member.
Alan Lorber created, together with MGM, the marketing concept of the 'Boston Sound' to promote (and sell) an alternative to the West-coast bands... The Ultimate Spinach was the most interesting band to come out of this hype.

"The Dukes were the band we all wanted to be in when we were at school: Purple, giggling, fuzztone, liquid, and arriving. If you want to know where those cheap charlatans The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Byrds, The Hollies, and The Beach Boys stole their ideas from, well just listen to this and weep."

In 1968, Simon Dupree and the Big Sound released a single under the name "The Moles." This was done secretively by putting the tape into a subway locker in London and sending the key to a major English music publication with a letter stating that the tape should be released on the Parlophone label.
Jeff had really long hair, and he was all greasy. He was always working on cars and had greasy chains, and what have you. So, Jeff looked totally different. In fact, I think Chris had to take him out to Carnaby Street and buy him a whole load of new clothes just so he would fit in (laughs).

...an unhinged slice of psychobabble, walking the tightrope between kiddie singalong tune and outright madness. That scrape of distorted noise at the very beginning is "a prototype kind of a steel guitar thing someone gave us. It was overdubbed numerous times and turned around..."

Jefferson Airplane considered Neil a major influence and he was a frequent visitor to their house at 2400 Fulton Street in San Francisco. Neil reminded Grace Slick of Winnie the Pooh, and her nickname for him was "Poohneil". The song 'The Ballad of You and Me and Pooneil' was written for him.

I had various country band line-ups, and we started playing some psychedelic music too, because the only places we found to play were the punk clubs. The psychedelic material went over a little better with them. To me it was all the same anyway, I knew how to do it all.

We were so bad. They finally got Sly Stone to come in and Sly taught each of us—well, not the singers—but taught the guitar players and the bass player and everyone what to do on the songs.
There is probably some old Great Society stuff floating around somewhere.

The evening ended with Budgie trying to climb a wall and falling off and damaging his foot and being in agony. I always remember him with this silk-like top and pants, and he had his make-up on and he was totally legless in this wheelbarrow with his balls hanging out.
