Since 1973, Irish agriculture has received net transfers from the EU of close to €40 BILLION, dragging the entire sector out of poverty.
Doubly sickening to see a recipient of this taxpayer largesse lecture anyone on “looking after our own people first”
I have preordered it from @kennysbookshop.bsky.social and am really looking forward to reading it.
It’s like the way Maths Departments axed Geometry Departments before Misner, Thorne and Wheeler showed Relativity was really a Geometry and Physics Departments started grabbing the Geometers
When I was a child I heard the prayer at a graveside of ‘In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost’ as ‘In the name of the Father, the Son and into the hole he goes’
I really enjoyed it here in Ireland. You were brilliant. I wish you would do some more. Does your name mean you are from Farsi ancestry?
Agreed. It blew me away.
Thanks so much. I will be 80 next week and SF has given me more pleasure than almost anything except Opera and Mathematics. (I was a teacher and loved it)
Many years ago I read some great stories about going back in time to try to fix some problem on a severely pollited Earth. Probably in Fantasy and Science Fiction. Can you remember the author? The ‘fix’ always made things far worse.
Absolutely brilliant series.
There is no need to give any reason for ever teading either Wodehouse or Pratchett

Happy St. Patrick's Day, New York.
Do you remember the threepenny bit? The excitement I felt when my Granny gave me one. I was rich!
I just may have to reconsider AI. If Knuth is impressed then WOW!

The Song of the Banyan Tree
@jasonsinghthing, the Mozart (or maybe Brian Eno) of Biosonfication, attaches electrodes to our banyan tree to record its biofeedback and turn into a soundtrack for Tishani Doshi to dance to @oliviafraserart's British Council show, A Journey Within, opening Thursday
How far back would he like to go? 13th century:

2 chopins = 1 pint
2 pints = 1 quart
2 quarts = 1 pottle
2 pottles = 1 gallon
2 gallons = 1 peck
2 pecks = 1 demibushel
See Knuth “The Art of Computer Programming” Volume 2.
A great example of an early use of the binary system.
Can I say what a great joirnalist @nialljournal.bsky.social is and how much I appreciate his work.
Thanks for your tecommendation of Blood Harvest. It made me buy Blood Red which I can’t put down. Reminds me of early @stephenking.bsky.social
It is a brilliant book.
Maybe his name should be left on everything to remind future citizens of the USA what a delicate and vulnerable flower Democracy is?
Thank you for this.
A parliamentary question in the Dáil yesterday raised by TD Aidan Farrellly remains unanswered with answer overdue…
Thanks for sharing this.
