Today, we’re spotlighting @alexslotkin.bsky.social and April O’Brien’s article, "Situating Public Memory as a Keyword in Technical and Professional Communication.” They make a case for bringing public memory and TPC together as a tool to further social impact. 1/2

…and the story of the Mizrahi Jewish “Kuwaity Brothers” music group to demonstrate the devastating efficacy of cultural erasure, making a case for the connection between the decimation of Mizrahi Jews’ presence and legacy in Iraq and Israel’s ongoing genocide in Palestine.

From the editor (abbrev):
Slotkin blends family history with an analysis of Jewish Rhetorics scholarship to call for diversifying our understanding of Judaism to include the perspectives of Mizrahi (Middle Eastern & North African) Jews. He weaves family photographs, his grandmother’s ghost tales…🧵
Easiest because it’s the most intellectually & personally honest I’ve been in my scholarship.
Hardest because some colleagues suggested I shouldn’t write it— that it was “too divisive.”
I decided it was time to talk about Arab Jewish rhetorics anyway.

I’m grateful to share my new article, “Constellating Jewish Rhetorics: A Call for New Directions from an Iraqi Jew,” published in Constellations: a cultural rhetorics publishing space.
This was the easiest and hardest piece I’ve ever written.

#4c25 was incredibly fun; I got to learn from brilliant people, catch up with folx I don’t see often enough, and get to do a little sightseeing (cherry blossoms and Poe’s grave!). Dm me if we didn’t get to connect this time around—always happy to talk on Zoom or whatever!
Getting into Baltimore today for #4C25. Besides Poe’s grave, what else do I need to see?
Session details for A.26, Thursday 10:30-11:45 AM. Baltimore Convention Center, Room 307.
Excited to see ya’ll in Baltimore #4C25
How do ya’ll keep up with so many social media accounts? I feel like if I pay attention to one I forget the others 😔
I will be continuing to call it the Gulf of Mexico because I don't cater to the whims of a ridiculous felon

A few days late, but the first meeting for my Intro. to Cultural Rhetorics seminar (the first grad class I’m teaching) went well! The best part? Just how quickly students were able to connect the content to their own identities and positionalities, and their openness to share that with me.
What are the odds that TikTok won’t be banned? Feels like I’m losing Vine all over again 😢
Happy Christmas and Merry Chanukkah…or Merry Christmas and Happy Chanukkah! 🎄🕎
The bigger thing for me is thinking about how many people COULDN’T get away with this. I have a feeling that if he were a woman of color for example, no one would have defended it.
Let me guess. He won't be charged with terrorism...
SBWU baristas in Arizona on ULP strike, holding picket signs that say no contract, no coffee!
More than 300 Starbucks stores and 5000 BARISTAS are on an unfair labor practice strike today! This is the largest ULP strike EVER in Starbucks’ history.

Absolutely dystopian
every family tree has queer branches, leaves, roots
whatever the family you know is like, there are people who came before you who were like you & they will whisper to you, carry you
they lived through turbulence too
reach for the sky, burrow to the earth, breathe the words of the tree of life
To be fair, this is how I dance nowadays...
lmfao
Haven’t posted here in a long time. Is there where we’re all migrating?
Hey ya'll, it's my birthday! Feel free to share something nice with me here (e.g., something cool you did or read, a piece of good news, well-wishes, curses, etc.)
Two leather bound books lying on a desk
A title page for “The Book of Days”
A page for January, with January personified as an old man
A page for the first of January, discussing what historical figures who born on January 1
Printed in 1869, these two were rescued from a house fire; if you flip through the pages, you can actually still smell the smoke! 🔥 There’s an entry for each day. And seeing that it’s the start of the new year, I thought I’d share a couple of pages for Jan. 1st. ❄️
Celebrating Christmas the only way I know how: with Chinese food and a movie

Harvard's metaLab has launched aipedagogy.org , chock full of tasty assignments by trailblazers of generative AI in the classroom like @annamillsoer.bsky.social. (My own "AI Sandwich" is also on the menu.)
I've already stolen Juliana Castro's "Illustrate a Hoax" for my own class!

It has been dark, cloudy, and raining nonstop since Monday. You can’t charge anything solar, and I’ve had to pull in some of my plants so they don’t drown. Is this the new normal?
Check out my interview with Klal Rhetorica, the group for “all things Jewish rhetorics!” I talk a bit about my work, the group, and what I hope Jewish rhetorics can become 😊
