Of course. Of course the miracle of AI is a mechanical Turk. Not just stealing art. Humans even work the *boring* AI from inside. And it’s a colonial monster too, exploiting poor overseas labour. Oh, AI, is there nothing you can’t enshittify? TW: dark as fuck.

New reporting from @brandyzadrozny.bsky.social:
The Epoch Times is now the 4th-most subscribed to newspaper in America. Its revenue grew 685% in two years over the pandemic.
The paper is run by Falun Gong, a Chinese religious sect, that claims Jan. 6 and climate change are hoaxes.
The Governor has vetoed our bill to cap insulin co-pays at $35/month (SB 90). People are choosing between paying for insulin & buying food. This veto is a missed opportunity to ensure people can afford their medicine.
I’m starting to think this Gavin Newsom guy might be an asshole.
13 out of 15! Though I feel I should have gotten bonus for how fast I answered 10 of the other questions.
Some of the reluctance to hold Trump accountable was a function of the same old perverse political incentives—elected Republicans feared a political backlash from their base. But after January 6, a new, more existential brand of cowardice had emerged. One Republican congressman confided to Romney that he wanted to vote for Trump’s second impeachment, but chose not to out of fear for his family’s safety. The congressman reasoned that Trump would be impeached by House Democrats with or without him—why put his wife and children at risk if it wouldn’t change the outcome? Later, during the Senate trial, Romney heard the same calculation while talking with a small group of Republican colleagues. When one senator, a member of leadership, said he was leaning toward voting to convict, the others urged him to reconsider. You can’t do that, Romney recalled someone saying. Think of your personal safety, said another. Think of your children. The senator eventually decided they were right.
I'm sorry, but if I'm a freaking US Senator and I make calculations about how to vote based on whether the supporters of the leader of my party might kill me or my family, then I'd probably do some soul searching about the party I've chosen.
doctor I know you keep calling it an “episode” but this feels more like an arc
BREAKING: Two audience members of the Drew Barrymore show were kicked out for wearing "Writers Guild on Strike" pins.
The pair was handed pins by striking writers picketing directly outside the show.
They were asked to leave before the show began.

Once at a conference I mentioned knowing your audience and writing with them in mind. A guy in the audience countered with "but shouldn't we be writing for everyone, the widest audience possible?"
Pal, I couldn't get my own grandmother to read my books, but you think universal appeal is possible?
in the 90’s, computers would scream every time you went online. that‘s called foreshadowing
NY Gov. Kathy Hochul just signed into law a bill banning captive audience meetings.
As of today, bosses in NYS cannot make employees attend meetings with those high-paid consultants who come and tell you how scary unions are 👻 Go attend your union meeting instead 😉
It’s extremely funny that a medical doctor can say “this is the service my patient needs” and someone who is not a medical doctor can just say no as they swan dive into a pile of gold coins
I want an apology from all the mansplainers that mocked my belief that privatizing NASA and relying this heavily on SpaceX would undermine the national security policy of the United States.

It’s so weird how all these players are getting sick at the US Open during a Covid surge in NYC, will we ever find an answer to this medical mystery
I *strongly* advise not having this app on your phone or uploading media to it that you haven’t stripped of metadata beforehand - someone with 10 years experience investigating commercial surveillance
Even after more than a decade of Uber, people don’t seem to get that the venture capitalists only subsidize the “disruptive” tech long enough to throw the displaced workers into permanent precarity, then they raise prices after destroying the overall market. Cab driver suicides are the strategy.
You know you've made it when...
Former Tesla workers recently described their work conditions.
They talked about collapsing from dehydration, working on the factory floor up to 12 hours a day 7 days a week, sleeping on the floor, and throwing up.
There was even a sewage leak workers were told to work through.
The devil went down to Georgia, he was looking for a vote to steal. He was in a bind, he was way behind, he was willing to make a deal.
A sign that shows a bear and a human hand apparently dropping food in front of it. But it looks like the hand is rolling 4d6. There is a red circle with a slash around the whole thing, indicating that you should not do it.
No playing D&D with the bears.
Why can’t people get radicalized into simply being cool
