“Expanding the Supreme Court is no different that redistricting in California and Virginia. It is a proportionate response to Republican attempts to degrade liberal democracy and move America toward a post-liberal order.”

The average Texas voter has no clue what Fed money is spent in the state, and no idea who should get credit or blame for it. I'm not sure what the next Democratic president can even do to pierce the information bubble. Block FEMA funding? People would notice at least. But it likely wouldn't help.
Okay but what's the goal? Texas state level leadership has been fine passing up a Medicaid expansion for almost 2 decades in spite of industry pleas to accept it. They overwhelmingly get their donations from energy, real estate developers, and more recently AI/crypto bros.
Okay but there's 32 million Texans and about 200,000 DoD related jobs of all kinds in the state. About a third of those aren't going anywhere unless the whole system collapses. We're not bringing down Abbott/Patrick/Cruz/etc with 140k jobs.
San Antonio votes Democratic, on the whole.
I bought this on your recommendation and am about a third of the way through. It's been a blast so far.
Intervention in the Iran/Iraq Tanker War, Panama, Grenada, First Gulf War, intervention in the Yugoslav Wars. Hell, there's a strong argument for the Korean War and a weak one for the invasion of Iraq.
The US goes to war too often, but our win ratio isn't terrible.
Staff Sgt. Tyler Johnson and Sgt. Spencer Harrell captured a rare victory last week at the Army-run International Sniper Competition, securing the Marine Corps' first win in 17 years and only its second in the event's history.
From Stars and Stripes' Lydia Gordon:
An incredible saga from start to finish. Everyone involved is scummy as hell. Bizarrely the Trump Org is one of the least objectionable parties (though ICE deporting people in the middle of it all is a darkly ironic twist).
It's a very good idea to turn on the 2FA feature on your account.
You're laughing? Rod Dreher's disembodied head is hurtling through the void and you're laughing??
Well, we need the rain. Hopefully without flooding.
AltNPS has been focused on the threat to the US Forest Service this week, and even launched a website in an effort to pressure brands to speak out. And that's great! There's just one problem.
They plagiarized the whole thing.
Yeah I learned passable Japanese through those old language CDs and watching a lot of anime. I sounded goofy but understandable to native speakers, and then spending a year in the country really helped.
Goddamn, people still popping up the comments to act like Snyder isn't a self important dork that immediately ran away when shit got real.
When you're trying so hard to be edgy you descend into incoherence.
That's home. That's us.
This image of home just came down from the Artemis II crew.

"How dare you tell people what I said in public??" is a hell of a rhetorical tactic.
I miss oldschool Star Wars EU drama like that.
I remember the disappointment of reading his follow up series to "Lord of the Isles." Just no gas left in the tank at all.

For non-space people who follow me, the Artemis 2 mission with four astronauts to loop around the Moon is on track, with countdown started to liftoff at 6:30 pm Eastern on Wednesday.
My aunt has gradually been going blind from this, so I'm so glad to see the science moving forward.
The official White House Android app has a cookie/paywall bypass injector, tracks your GPS every 4.5 minutes, and loads JavaScript from some guy's GitHub Pages.
There is an action/comedy/crime drama made in 2024 starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney. It's legitimately well made, switches between farce and drama effectively, and feels like it would have done huge numbers a decade ago. I double many people even know it exists. Apple TV remains baffling.
Oh yeah. Making hobo stew.
With all of the “Marines going to Iran!” news lately, I thought a summary on Marine Expeditionary Units (MEU) might be helpful for some of you on this site as I haven’t really seen anyone post much about them, so I may have more expertise on this one subject than almost anyone else on Bluesky.
Ace at his most excited to see me, very earnestly trying to lick my face.
appletv is the only streaming service authorized for viewing inside a scif, on account of that’s where they film and distribute the fuckin thing
