When Jesse Jackson came to Park Slope. 1988 Democratic primary. In his memory, let's keep hope alive.

Our Mayor-elect and a certain Senator from Vermont walked the picket line with the Starbucks workers in Park Slope today.
I was able to hear them speak, but because I am vertically challenged, I couldn't see them--except through other people's cameras. I did get photos of an ear and a forehead.

The mainstream media was pretty much absent, as far as I can tell. And even if they are there, they aren't saying much. I believe it is my responsibility to share what I can.

Yes, I'm going back to World Fellowship Center next week! This is so worth the trip. Hope to see some of you there. (Sliding scale fee listed for the week is in addition to room and board.)

Zohran Mamdani is calling for city-owned grocery stores. NYC already has them. The idea has broad support from progressives, while some critics warn against “radical socialism.” But New York already has city-owned grocery stores.

I saw a post this morning that there was a gestapo—I mean ICE— raid at a carwash in our neighborhood. I guess it was more than a rumor. Post below from NYC Councilmember Shahana Hanif. I've also heard that her office is seeking any video, etc, of the raid.

Sunday at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

When nothing seems to help, I go and look at a stonecutter hammering away at his rock perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred and first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not that blow that did it, but all that had gone before.

Brooklyn’s seniors, disabled demand ‘Hands off Social Security!’ Since Elon Musk’s DOGE incursions, recipients say phones are going unanswered, the website is glitching and they live in fear.

#HandsOffSocialSecurity this week. When asked for a quote, I had to think "we're here about Social Security right now." That was hard, as what had kept me up the night before was concentration camps. But I think the reporter got the quote right. It was OK considering I hadn't planned it.

Today in NYC protest....
I was only there for the tail end of this women's rights demo--I saw many people already leaving. But there were a few dozen still on 47th Street when I arrived.

This weekend, DHS targeted and seized Mahmoud Khalil as punishment for his political speech, and indicated that they are revoking his green card. They have since handed him over to ICE where he is being detained — his location unknown — and held for deportation without due process.

This is what fascist governments do, and it will not stop here. This extreme escalation is the test case; the Trump/Musk administration is trying to see how far they can go without public outrage and legal checks on their power. Now is the moment to speak out and oppose this as fiercely and loudly as possible.

This extreme escalation is an egregious violation of first amendment rights. Now is the moment to speak out and oppose this as fiercely and loudly as possible.

Two bullet points of what I have done so far today:
• Called Representative to encourage him to hold the line on the budget. I got a person in the Brooklyn office, but left a message on the DC number.
• Sent an email to my contacts who may not be on social media about no shopping on Friday 2/28.
