A Year After U.S.A.I.D.’s Death, Fired Workers Find Few Jobs and Much Loss

This is so darned sad

"People have plowed through savings, cashed out retirement funds and moved in with relatives. Former U.S.A.I.D. workers estimate that less than half have found full-time work"

An Invention of Collective Nouns

A reckoning of spreadsheets.
A distraction of smartphones.
A prattle of podcasts.
A mispronunciation of scones.

A clique of photographers.
A heard of precedents.
An enjambment of
poets. A grope of presidents.

A pile of haemorrhoids.
A bunion of personal trainers.
A bout of estimations.
A condescension of mansplainers.

A stroke of geniuses.
A spot of adolescents.
An embarrassment of Richards.
A collection correction of pedants.

Today I'm grateful for slow improvement, mostly upright day with only moderate chocking. Taking a bath in the middle of the day like the decadent bitch I am. (Also to help the aches and random intolerable itching)
And surviving a shop outing, more mango was required.

My mother refuses to go see the lossie walrus.

I really do think I must be adopted or swapped at birth, because what on earth is more interesting than seeing a walrus?

And they don't do anything about it.

Although to be fair, my own leader is on Isreal's paycheck so I can't really talk, but also we don't have a whatever amendment allows the people to have guns specifically to rise up and overthrow an over stepping government 🤷‍♀️

These folks don't seem very clever. But sure, just give the world a heads up that your military can be brought down by a super common infection.

Andrew Purkis: What a Reform government could mean for charities Reform’s manifestos suggest that charities must prepare now for big potential changes if the party wins the next general election, writes Andrew Purkis…

In case anyone in my day job sector - UK NGOs - were in doubt about Reform, @andrewpurkis.bsky.social breaks down the litany of ways that Farage would curtail, hinder, and silence us 👇🏽

So, Israel soldier punished for damaging statue, yet the dozens who murder women children and medics in cold blood - nothing. Israel is a pariah state. We should cut all ties, cease all arms sales.

Federal judge calls RFK Jr. an “unsafe” leader in order protecting trans youth health care The broad ruling was designed to deflect future attacks on gender-affirming care for kids.

NEW: In a scathing ruling describing RFK Jr. as an “unserious” and “unsafe” leader, a federal judge in Oregon issued an order that will protect doctors and hospitals, and the transgender kids they treat.

The Whitehouse might have outdone the church as hiring the most pedophiles 🤔

Expert quits US HIV role, rebukes Trump's global health approach The chief science officer for the U.S. flagship HIV/AIDS program left his role this week and criticized the Trump administration's cuts ‌to foreign assistance and what he said was its use of aid as leverage for U.S. commercial interests.

Why are the British so fucking stupid.

Did they see any brexit benefits? Did their lives get better?

They can see what Trump does in the US.

So why the hell are they falling for the same nonsense again?

Sobering talk from Timothy Walsh from Oxford, UK on the rising antibacterial resistance even to the NOVEL agents

For example we are already seeing growing reports of Cefiderocol resistance - and we have barely started using it.

As usual we are being outrun by the bacteria

97 public libraries in Scotland have permanently closed since 2008.

Libraries are an essential community service, providing far more than just books. We'll ensure councils have the financial backing they need so that no community is left without access to one.

Measles outbreak means my immunocompromised son can’t leave the house without extreme safety measures Hundreds of thousands of families are making life-or-death decisions as measles continues to spread.

Yes, measles, Covid-19, flu... it does not matter, public health is a shared responsibility - our decisions impact others around us

When Trump is finally gone you just know the US is going to carry on business as usual, and the next meglomaniac criminal president will be smarter about it all, because they know there are zero consequences and checks and balances only exist in the imagination of the people.

Dozens of AI disease-prediction models were trained on dubious data The models are designed to predict someone’s risk of diabetes or stroke. A few might already have been used on patients.

This is why I keep banging on about the importance of trained humans in the loop for data analyses. You *cannot* just take a dataset and run, especially not unattributed data from kaggle. You *must* do the due diligence to look for artifacts, outliers, and edge cases with your actual human eyes.

I found a lady here who teaches how to make felt then turn your felt into slippers. It's tempting, but she doesn't teach on weekends.

Its a very felty nation.

Disturbingly my mantra of the day is "relax your throat" 😵‍💫

If i move, or anything tickles it, like a smoke smell the cough is so violent Im breaking.

So constant lubricant and relaxation is the only way forward.

(Even water can set it off, so it's a lottery too)

But at least im entertained 🤪
