Italian UNIFIL soldiers rebuilt the statue of Jesus Christ that was smashed by Israeli soldiers in the town of Debel in southern Lebanon.

Yesterday, the Israeli army sent a statue to the village to replace the one that was smashed, but it was rejected by the residents.

People citing the story about how the IDF sent the Lebanese village of Debel a new statute of Jesus should probably acknowledge that the residents rejected it and had a more appropirate one rebuilt by UNIFIL.

I had the “they’ll figure it out” attitude about COVID in Dec 2019 when I was in Japan. And well that didn’t quite work out.

It’s also so dumb militarily when you compare the capabilities of each region. Arab states have shown themselves to be worse than useless as armies

Every elected official that dies in office of old age or a known disease is a party-wide failure

This has always been what originalism is. It is purely “conservative justices projecting their own insane ideas on to unidentified “founders” or whoever conveniently agreed with them in either US or English history regardless of any facts”. It’s flat earth legal theory

The true solve for gerrymandering is multi member districts. Take the geography mostly out of it and it becomes a population q. Major cities get multiple members. Districts are comprised at the county level

I’d have a microscopic level if they weren’t actively trying to repeal the Voting Rights Act. This is what they wanted!

The fundamental divide in Democratic politics continues to be those who see this administration as the culmination of a failed system vs those who think Trump is a singular unique failure of an otherwise functional system.

At this point court-packing isn't enough. We need to jail and disbar some SCOTUS justices.

Gonna print out “Hate your water bill? Blame a farmer” and put them ALL over the Denver area this summer

this is important to get your head around the basic shape of water use out West. farmers get the overwhelming majority of it--far more than all industry and cities put together--and pay almost nothing for it

I think our society really is grossly underestimating how important visible accountability is for social cohesion.

May we re-learn this lesson.

A clip from The New York Times reads: "But only the entities that officially paid the tariffs are eligible to recover that money. That means that the fuller universe of people affected by Mr. Trump’s policies — including millions of Americans who paid higher prices for the products they bought — are not able to apply for direct relief.

The extent to which consumers realize any gain hinges on whether businesses share the proceeds, something that few have publicly committed to do. Some have started to band together in class-action lawsuits in the hopes of receiving a payout."

The average American family paid $1,700 in tariffs last year, according to the bipartisan Congressional Joint Economic Committee. Few will ever see any of that money back. The refunds will go to companies, if doled out at all. What a joke.

“The West” has always and will always reference cultures White people have accepted as sufficiently white. “The East” are cultures White people view as Asian. “The global South” are just countries viewed as poor Black and Brown. That’s it it’s just racist frames from White people.

Anywho, the other white dude from the South is on the stump and he is not yelling about "the groups." He's out there rhetorically punching Trump and his minions in the face repeatedly.

The fact that Mamdani just seems like a cheerful normal guy who's policies are things like "we're going to tax second homes to fund pothole repairs" or whatever and yet this generates panicked responses like "This is basically Stalin's great purge turned up to eleven" is... telling. It tells things.

Trump just publicly referred to the Strait of Hormuz as the “Strait of Iran.” Not only does this look like total capitulation from his administration but I am trying to imagine the GOP/Fox response if Joe Biden had said this.
