What is the probability of an image? What do the highest and lowest probability images look like? Do natural images lie on a low-dimensional manifold?
In a new preprint with Zahra Kadkhodaie and @eerosim.bsky.social, we develop a novel energy-based model in order to answer these questions: ๐งต
Fantastic news- congratulations Adrienne!!

Me narrating in front of iPad with microphone
And that's a wrap - my narration for Elusive Cures is complete.
From that intense read, I saw how personal this book is. It's a science book, but also my own story as a scientist, grappling with some of the biggest questions. And in that pursuit, reconnecting with optimism about our shared future.
I think easier/cleaner to derive SURE from Tweedie (both of which generalize to many other noise models):

The NeuroRSE group at #FlatironCCN recently hosted two software workshops on analyzing #neuroscience data using new software tools @pynapple.bsky.social and NeMoS. The next workshop will take place at SfN this November. Read more: www.simonsfoundation.org/2025/02/25/c... #science
Horace Barlow, by all accounts, was thinking about 30 years ahead of his time. Here is a transcript of the opening keynote I gave at a symposium honoring Horace's scientific legacy: markusmeister.com/2024/12/14/h....
How do interneurons reshape neural responses? I'm excited to present work with @eerosim.bsky.social at #NeurIPS2024 that proposes a nonlinear recurrent circuit model motivated by efficient coding theory.
