to be clear the misery in the story part is part of the appeal but being made sad by them on official materials and fanon levels i could do without (official merch mostly teases another ship, fandom doesn’t really see them). am attempting to change the latter at least.

Actually… I felt a stir of feelings like that a few weeks ago, and was shocked at myself ;; but it went away fast….

I’m trying to just channel it into making more of the thing I want to see instead of being unhappy there is so little right now. I think that’s the only mature way to deal with this.

But…I do worry that frustration and envy could get the better of me eventually and start to create feelings of resentment.
And that would really suck :’)

so..all I can do is vaguely hope this will change eventually.

The thing I’m really afraid of is if I start to become resentful over the popularity gap. So far, for more than three years, my deep and sincere enjoyment of the popular ship has totally prevented jealousy of the comparative popularity…

Including by me! I myself feel reluctant to do so due to bad reactions in the past. So I am part of the problem 😅

Since it’s an organic result of popularity, and I can’t tell people ‘hey talk about my ship more’, and don’t want them to *stop* talking about the major ship, I can’t do anything…

in practice what this means is that our most popular ship (which I do like as well!) is constantly lightly referenced and posted and joked about all over the server, and…well, my favorite one is never referenced except in its own channel.

I do think that was the right decision! Even if more people with notps eventually join, as long as aren’t members posting full on shippy art outside of the designated channels they’ll survive a few small mentions of it here and there.
