If AI is the IKEA of development, where does that leave the bespoke programmer? Are we all just becoming assembly line workers for "functional-ish" furniture? (2/2)

We’ve reached the mass-production era of coding. Models are trained on the "good enough," but they can't "aim up" at decades of craft. I find myself using AI tools daily, yet I’m constantly tidying up the bloat they leave behind. (1/2)

The US Burned 14 Years of Missiles in 30 Days | Trendy Tech Tribe The US fired 850 Tomahawk missiles in 30 days but buys only 57 a year. As munitions run dry, the Pentagon pivots to ground troops in Iran, guaranteeing the Strait of Hormuz stays closed, European gas ...

The US needs to massively increase rearmament manufacturing. Arms companies will make insane profits. Who in Trump's circle will gain directly, and from insider knowledge? Who will suffer as money is diverted?

As a long time Survivor fan I was utterly disgusted by this week's episode. It was an ad for a musician I've never heard of and his promotion of murdering animals for fun. This is not the 49.5 seasons of Survivor I have enjoyed. And don't get me started on his whiny singing voice.

All Americans should root for the downfall of a wicked regime that tries to dictate religion to its citizens.

And also the one in Iran.

I finally gave up and Googled who Nick Suzuki is after seeing you post his name so many times.

Just a heads up to any developers considering LocalStack for AWS. Please avoid it. They have dodgy bait-and-switch practices. It cost me $1500 to learn that their premium offering does not support what they say it does. Their ToS says they don't refund. Despite monthly pricing, they charge annually.

An interesting thought. A case to nationalise power, network and compute infrastructure preemptively.

If I ask it to set a timer, or turn off the lights, or any other such action, it should a) react immediately and not be silent for 10 seconds, b) provide a terse response, if one is even needed (e.g. don't tell me you turned on the lights when I can see the lights just turned on).

Anthropomorphising AI assistants like Gemini with human-sounding voices and responses is dangerous and costly. I want my assistant to sound like a robot, so that I never forget it is just a robot.

The question "create new contact or add to existing contact" is such bad ux. I have no idea. Show me the existing contacts you think might match. Give me a search field. Help me out here.

Catching up on Trump's verbal diarrhoea session at Davos. Holy shit! Literally, shit full of holes (lies, mistruths and misunderstandings).

Does he deliberately call wind turbines windmills? Or does he not understand they are two different things?

Quit talking about Trump. Address everything, every issue to Miller and Vought. Make Trump irrelevant, his ego will not let him be out of the spotlight and you’ll see Miller and Vought removed and the rest of the administration collapse.

At this point, America is beyond simply rebooting or powering off and on again.

Platinum 67 - Venba. Lovely indie game about cooking & an immigrant experience. I totally related to the story having immigrants parents myself & being born & raised in Toronto. Can't wait to see what the developers do next!

It is clear to me that Christianity, as demonstrated by a large number of Americans, is one of the nastier cults.

I am convinced code editors are the new CMS in that every organisation seems to be creating one.

Almost everyone is using the open source version of VSCode as a starting point. At least we don't have hundreds of CMS products all forked from WordPress.
