“If there were no drugs aboard those boats, it’s a hugely embarrassing ‘false positive’ for US intelligence at a time when that intelligence is being used to kill people, no questions asked.”

I've been a faculty member for 25+ years and we really don't have lounges. I'd be psyched to get a vending machine.
Ah, but what shape will the table be?
I really hate the fact that I can write a sentence like "The President is suing himself for ten billion dollars and is close to reaching a settlement with himself to award himself an undisclosed sum at the taxpayers' expense." and not only is it not just barking mad, but it's more or less true.

Do I think that Graham Platner will pull a Fetterman if elected? I don't know.
Do I find it annoying that people portray white men who went to elite schools and grew up in affluent families as "working class" just because they hate wearing suits? Yes, definitely.
On April 15, at the direction of #SOUTHCOM commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan, Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by Designated Terrorist Organizations. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was transiting along known narco-trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations. Three male narco-terrorists were killed during this action. No U.S. military forces were harmed. @DeptofWar #OpSouthernSpear
Despite the administration’s rhetoric and bogus legal theories, the supposed armed conflict with “narco-terrorists” appears to be entirely make believe.
Murder is the general term for premeditated killing outside of armed conflict.
Vought responds with his incorrect line that presidents had been impounding for 200 years, until the ICA came along and "wrongly" took away the president's ability to impound.
This is completely ahistoric. Will take a few tweets to respond fully.
Not quite sure in which of the Gospels that doctrine appears.
Days after the president blasted the Pope as “weak on Crime,” his own DOJ moved to dismiss criminal cases against individuals convicted of conspiring to use force to prevent the peaceful transfer of power.

Here's Trump on Jan 13, 2021, after he'd been impeached, but before the Senate had voted on whether to convict and bar him from office for life. "There's never a justification for violence ... Those who engaged in attacks last week will be brought to justice."
Contributors include George Edwards, Jasmine Farrier, Will Howell, Frances Lee, Doug Kriner, Dave Lewis, and myself. Lots on unilateralism, as you might guess... and on Congressional submissiveness (Doug channels his inner Eliot: "not with a bang but a whimper.")

Many congrats!
Distressing news.
Someone compiled all of the Calvin and Hobbes strips about Calvin’s polls of his Dad, which is proof that good people do exist on the internet

A friendly amendment: the Secretary of State *and* the Assistant to the President for National Security...
Is the fact that the Iran war wasn’t congressionally authorized something we no longer talk about? Seems like the reporting/discussion now just assumes that Trump can just do whatever he wants wrt the use of force
Damn, I missed that one - nice :)
“They have no cards besides the straight flush I dealt them…”
We need a lot of Constitutional Amendments but drastically limiting the pardon power is pretty high on the list.
Quite literally the only reason to tell people this is to convince them to commit crimes
Happy 50th anniversary to “All the President’s Men” — a film that owes its existence to Redford, who bought the film rights, developed the script and cajoled a reluctant Woodward & Bernstein.
I thought it was “a great character study,” he said later. But, for months, “they didn’t return my calls.”
Another word for this is “bribe.”
When the Director of National Intelligence was repeatedly asked by members of Congress about this supposed "imminent threat" she was unable to substantiate it.
To be fair, if you fail to articulate a reason for starting a war in the first place, can you really be accused of failing to achieve your objectives?
Idrees Ali @idreesali114 X.com April 8 (Reuters) - Investors placed an approximately $950 million bet on oil prices falling just hours before the U.S. and Iran announced a ceasefire, the latest large wager on the direction of the world's most traded commodity ahead of a major policy announcement by Trump. 9:55 AM • 4/8/26 • 8.8K Views
Idrees Ali @idreesali114 X.com Taking large positions on oil prices rising or falling is not unusual as traders use them to hedge large volumes of physical oil trade. But such deals are very rarely done in big lots. Large orders also are seldom executed after settlement. 9:57 AM • 4/8/26 • 1.4K Views

NEW: Donald Trump is underwater with registered voters in **135** GOP-held House and Senate seats. His approval is <45% in 44, including 10 senators. Should be a warning for Republicans in Congress weighing electoral cost of Trump's war and crazy tweets.

Congress? An elegant weapon for a more civilized age
Trump/Vought are planning to eliminate the program that oversees social science funding from the National Science Foundation, and they are not going to wait for Congress to weigh in because they have already shown they believe they have the power of the purse.
