Everything is fucking dumb all the time now
Uber is an awful lot of being in cars you can't afford driven by people who deserve benefits and a union and a living wage that they don't receive.
When companies underinvest in T&S in non-EN langs, they're only exacerbating existing vectors of risk posed to the communities speaking those languages. This is laid bare in @untoldmag.org on the coupling of online and offline risks to LGBTQ+ communities in Egypt untoldmag.org/egypt-lgbtq-...
só vou deixar esse vídeo aqui
holy shit he actually conceded
folks, they tell you they’re invincible
they tell you they’re inevitable
they tell you that you should give up and stop fighting
and absolutely none of that is true
New from 404 Media: the FBI was able to extract incoming Signal messages from a phone even though the app was deleted. Why? Because parts of messages were stored in the iPhone's internal notification database. Shows how secure chat data can come from unexpected places www.404media.co/fbi-extracts...
A fundamental friction exists between secure messaging apps and the OSes upon which they sit. Turn off push notifications for Signal or at least restrict their content.

(And, yes, I'll be teaching the Reasoning About Risk & Security session.)
When the birthright citizenship decision comes out, people will say it could never have gone any other way, that the law was obvious. But the mere fact that SCOTUS took on the case is evidence enough that we are living in a time of democratic precarity.
I'm glad someone is calling out this trend. It's particularly pernicious in tech.
Doing away with Section 230 “and really removing a fundamental piece of architecture from the Internet is a really ham-handed blunderbuss way” of trying to address online child exploitation, EFF’s @davidgreene.bsky.social told WVIK. www.wvik.org/wvik-top-st...
For people who are concerned about having their devices seized at US airports starting Monday when ICE "assists" the TSA, EFF has this guide: www.eff.org/deeplinks/20...
It's fucking heartbreaking seeing so many applications from aid workers in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East who were running incredible on-the-ground projects which all ended in 2025.
What DOGE did is unforgivable.
😥
♥️♥️♥️
It is *fascinating* to me how quickly some people have gone completely from “we all must work in the office! human collaboration is vital and only happens in person!” to “I can replace all these pesky people with chatbots!” Definitely some commentary there about our society and who gets to choose.
This is exactly right.
Age verification / online ID check legislation literally forces companies to collect MORE data on children (and everyone else) not less.
We desperately need privacy, antitrust, and algorithmic justice legislation.
Not censorship bills like KOSA and expanded surveillance.
What's scary about this story is the surveillance it hints at. This trans woman had changed her name, legally, but chose not to change her gender marker. She was apparently flagged in the DMV system as trans and her license was invalidated under a law that supposedly only concerned gender markers.
Reminder that Trump gutted VOA Farsi.
Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads: The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you. And our governments are very much the same... - Marjane Satrapi, Iranian-French graphic novelist
Thinking about this quote from Persepolis creator Marjane Satrapi again.
You may be tempted to roll your eyes and say that this was obvious, but there is a substantive difference between pointing out there is a slippery slope and having solid evidence that Ring's CEO is planning to expand Search Party beyond lost pets. Kudos to 404 Media.
sigh
The nice commercial about helping kids find their lost pets was the scariest thing I've seen in my life
If you didn’t catch the significance of the exploding transformers in Bad Bunny’s halftime show, I gotcha. Here’s one of a bunch of pieces I wrote from/on Puerto Rico about the crisis—and Trump’s role in it. slate.com/news-and-pol...
