We can have a slow burn that builds real horror even with foreknowledge of what will happen on the part of the audience.

I think Alien movies should always be structured with WY as the primary horror, and aliens as the "Jaws" lurking in the background. Otherwise it gets muddied.

But in terms of being a *horror* movie, it really falls flat and ultimately that makes it extremely dissatisfying. The elements are all there, they're just squandered on instant payoff and action.

Again, just because *we know* what aliens are and do shouldn't affect our empathic response.
