I might sound insane for this, but I genuinely think the rpgs should be considered the "core" games of the franchise at this point. They represent Mario at its most creative, have an extremely diverse cast of characters that are begging to become recurring spinoff roster inclusions, have possibly the best stories in any games Nintendo has published and, even if Nintendo refuses to admit this, they are clearly influencing the brand as a whole in a few ways
