I might be biased but @jennyrohn.bsky.social absolutely crushed her talk 🥳 at #ESCMIDGlobal2026 🦠🧫 human bladder microtissue model to investigate how novel antimicrobial therapies and fluid dynamics affect UPEC survival!

Congratulations!!
Before I moved, I was getting 4-5 requests a week (plus follow up emails after like 24-48 hours after the first) and I had to really limit it to things I thought fit my experience the best.
But.. I think people like yourself take on the bulk and some are not doing as much, hope I'm wrong.
Apparently? I assume they were wanting to show they did a lot for the research community without having to put the work in!
Ah yes, I understand, very frustrating. These kind of things are more suitable to a resource journal, rather than a full peer-reviewed journal
I'll keep you in mind for the next Staph paper i get then!
I very much agree with the turnaround times for reviews and the unbelievable number of emails. I've had a request on a Friday evening and a reminder 2 days later on the Sunday
Same, but then I do feel bad because I know how long I've had to wait for reviews for papers which arent going to set the World alight but are interesting to us
Totally agree, the BBSRC do this with the Pioneer award, which I think is great.
Trying to throw shade or shame people, I'm just wondering why it is becoming so hard to find people to review manuscripts! (4/4)
I've had people tell me they'll only review a manuscript if its for a journal they've not review for before so they can add that to their CV.
I have the feeling that there is an uneven load for review where a relative few are taking highest load for reviewing.
Don't get me wrong, im not (3/4)
Have been asked to review >10 different manuscripts without accepting any or even responding.
I know I'm guilty of this too sometimes.
Or is it a case of there is just too much to review and people have to be VERY selective for what they review or even journal they review for?
Anecdotally (2/4)
Do you think we do enough, as a community, to support peer review?
Genuine question.
As an editor, I sometimes have to ask 30-40 people to get 2 reviews. Often the request gets rejected without any reason or suggestions for alternatives.
In the software the journal uses I can see some (1/4)
Planning your @escmid.bsky.social ESCMID GLOBAL 2026 trip?
Marleen Hekker (UMCU) will present her poster 'Urine, vaginal, and vulval microbiome compositions of postmenopausal women with and without recurrent urinary tract infections' on Saturday 18 april, 12:00 -13:30, Hall B3, number P2408.
Just a few days left‼️
Abstract submission deadline for MEEHubs2026 is April 19! Come present at one of the hubs August 3-5, 2026✨

Super stoked to have had the opportunity to present my work on the evolution of some weird transport proteins!! Many thanks @microbiologysociety.org for inviting me and organising this superb conference 🦠🧬

Find out about how different host-mimicking environments alter P. aeruginosa biofilm from @kadeayomikun.bsky.social at poster 169 at #Microbio26
Go see Charlotte ( @c-cornbill.bsky.social) at poster B124 to discuss using a ex vivo porcine lung model to study evolution of Pseudomonas in biofilms under antimicrobial selective pressure. Wonderful work with some really cool images, you won't be disappointed. #microbio26
@c-cornbill.bsky.social has has TWO posters at #Microbio26! find out about antibiotic resistance evolution in our cystic fibrosis lung infection model at no. 124
Last conference talk as part of the Foster Lab and possibly my last as part of One Virology 🥲

Ever wondered if single step mutants are the same in Enterobacteriaceae? Do these mutations also impact collateral susceptibility the same? If so, they go have a chat to Sidra Kashif at poster number A048! #Microbio26
Interested B-lactam/B-lactamase inhibitor combination resistance? Ever wondered how we can remove evolutionary constraints to identify and map a wide range of inhibitor resistant mutations? Head to poster A057 and speak to Hawa about her awesome work! #Microbio26
Come to #Microbio26 poster 192 to hear how @charisthompson.bsky.social is sensitising mycobacteria to beta-lactams by making them flip their wall-building strategy #MicroSky
A woman talking in front of a projected slide. The slide shows a synergy plot - for a narrow range of polymyxin concentrations, any concentration of our polymer synergises with the polymyxin when used to co-treat Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Cracking talk from @nreddy.bsky.social about her PhD work - designing polymers based on AMPs to kill troublesome biofilm bacteria, or to help antibiotics kill these bacteria #Microbio26
Come to #Microbio26 poster 094 to hear all about natural product antimocrobial discovery from @tosinorababa.bsky.social and me #MicroSky
We will hopefully be looking into this soon!
