I wrote to Santander to raise concerns local people have shared with me. So, it’s great to see that people will continue to be able to access banking services in Liskeard.
Santander is introducing Santander Local in Liskeard, which will be staffed by a Community Banker and customers will continue to be able to receive face-to-face support.

I know that for many of us here in South East Cornwall, we cross the Tamar to access essential services. It’s a fact of daily life here to go to school, access healthcare and get to work.
It was great to meet with Chris from Coast & Country Parks in Parliament. Chris was a Tourism Superstar finalist and has a site at Callington and one in Notter Bridge.
I’ve been meeting with hospitality businesses across South East Cornwall to discuss what needs to be done to better support them.
That’s why I recently attended an event in Parliament to learn more about what we can do to improve road safety, especially in rural areas. I will continue to support local organisations like Safe38 to continue to deliver results.
In South East Cornwall, we have some dangerous stretches of roads, and I’m glad that there is good work going on to improve road safety in our area, especially along the A38.
But we must go further to improve our roads.
I have been consistently campaigning on this issue, from raising concerns about animal testing in Parliament to meeting regularly with animal welfare organisations and Ministers.
Labour’s Animal Welfare Strategy is a significant step forward in delivering better rights for animals so that they have the care and protection that they deserve.
I know that South East Cornwall is full of animal lovers, and I am one myself. Our pets are incredibly important for our mental health, reducing loneliness and calming us down in our busy lives.
I know that many people in South East Cornwall will welcome the two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran.
There needs to be a lasting end to the war, and I’ve been speaking with the Foreign Secretary and colleagues up in Westminster about what we need to do to ensure peace.
Cornwall can and will be the epicentre of the UK’s critical minerals industry because myself and the Cornish Labour MPs are ensuring that we are putting it front and centre, no matter where we go.
Mining is a fundamental part of our past, as the backbone of our economy and shaping our culture through local songs.
The race is on for mining critical minerals because we are going to need them for the key innovations of the future like smartphones and electric cars.
It was great to support Cornish critical minerals investment at the heart of the City of London, demonstrating the innovation and economic potential of companies like the fantastic Cornwall Resources.
I regularly raise these issues in Parliament, in debates and during discussions with Ministers and colleagues.
I will continue to listen closely to our fishing communities and champion their needs wherever I possibly can.
