Spatial Sorting of Well‐being in Sweden: The Role of Attitudes Towards the Neighbourhood and Neighbourhood Type Recently, spatial sorting of well-being at the neighbourhood level has received attention. As most studies merely focus on the distribution itself or one neighbourhood aspect in relation to well-bein...

We find:
- This happens in neighbourhoods that are poorer, migrant-dense or more homogenously Swedish
- This is due to different sorting mechanisms: through attitudes towards the neighbourhood or socioeconomic sorting
- Some types have lower well-being that cannot be explained by either mechanism

‼️New publication out!
Together with @karenhaandrikman.bsky.social in @tesg-journal.bsky.social ! We use the Swedish neighbourhood study to explore how well-being is spatially sorted, finding heterogeneous spatial sorting of well-being, showing the importance of the neighbourhood for well-being

The Spatial Determinants of Academic Aspirations: Evidence From Sweden Differences in access to higher education are a well-known contributor to socioeconomic inequalities. Yet, despite considerable interest from policymakers, we know little about the processes linking ...

Thrilled to share my first publication! 🎉
Together with Maria Brandén and Erik Rosenqvist, we show that distance to higher education shapes academic aspirations in Sweden—well before their university education begins. (1/4)

Doktorander som varit fyra år i Sverige kan söka om permanent uppehållstillstånd. Men de får ofta avslag, för efter fyra år som doktorand har man inte så lång anställningstid kvar, och då anses man inte ha varaktig försörjning.

Quite a strong final statement: "Descriptive research is important and it is a pity that the general obsession with causal estimates disincentivizes researchers from attempting to publish careful and detailed description."

Are rents affordable in Amsterdam? Not if you are a newcomer | Amber Howard The city was once the pinnacle of inclusivity, with working- and middle-class people alike living in social housing – then the private landlords arrived, says social-policy researcher Amber Howard

This is 10-12 tenure-track assistant professors’ salaries at many places. A whole academic program’s worth of money, pissed away, In Times of Austerity, on rent-a-cops going after students who dared speak. Nobody behind this should have a career.

The dissertation explores the spatial distribution of well-being in Sweden. I find that
- Well-being is spatially sorted at the neighbourhood level
- This overlaps with patterns of ethnic and socioeconomic segregation
- That this might be the result of both sorting and neighbourhood effects

thanks for writing this. i am always somewhat hesitant to tell people I work with populations out of fear they will get weird about fertility and this has provided some good ammunition for the next time this inevitably will happen
