Looks like space is full in the meeting so I'm not sure I'll get in, but you can watch the meeting here: www.youtube.com/live/pWaY85m...

I'm heading over to City Hall to attend the city council meeting about ICE and what it means to be a sanctuary city, I'll try to live tweet the meeting from 230-430.
Earlier, federal agents shot a protester in the eye. He holds gauze over his eye as blood pours down his arm.
Earlier, federal agents shot a protester in the eye. Vincent is an ER nurse and said he came to the protest at the ICE facility in South Portland after a shift. Other protesters called an ambulance for him, but he had to walk several blocks to meet it, due to the munitions still flying.
Anyone heading to the Thorns game tonight?? Hit me up!
I'm going to be posting about the state of the Union over at @baghdadbrian.bsky.social
I mean, unless it does. But I hope you're right.
It really is as bad as it looks. Utter madness.
While I did receive a call from the Mayor at 7:30 in the morning about this, I was informed the LUCS would be approved within the hour. I hadn’t even gotten to City Hall yet.
@councilorgreen.bsky.social and I kept Mayor Wilson up to date on our Zenith resolution constantly, to be good partners.
Americans, every day:
Dropped in on @mitchgreen.bsky.social and @mariasipin.bsky.social at Sellwood Community Center for their community office hours today, always great to catch up with Mitch and see a councilor out in the community!
Huge news: City of Portland wins federal funding to study tearing out the Kirby Avenue off-ramp dividing the Boise/Eliot neighborhoods in North Portland
NMF’s friends at the Eliot Neighborhood Association deserve a ton of credit for pushing for this for years

Hell yeah, many claps!!!
Hopefully @pnwpolicyangel.bsky.social @mitchgreen.bsky.social @councilorkanal.bsky.social and others will release a statement about this!
Agreed.
@asteris.bsky.social might have a suggestion?
Ehh hard disagree, and I hope you change your opinion in the future.
So the real question for the blue sky people, is when do we get to restart #gatoradewars over here and do any of you remember that?
Btw #orange is the only acceptable flavor. #teamorange
Exactly right.
Because they hadn't yet fully verified the source
Yup. I'm going to wait and see how the other councilors I support feel about Mitch's choice, particularly @candaceavalos.bsky.social and other councilors of color
Make no mistake I think it's bs that Avalos didn't get elected, but I blame fake progressives Novick and Pirtle-Guiney
I guess that's kind of what I've been trying to say, lol. Or rather I think I convinced myself while talking this through with you. Like, it does seem possible that they could have gotten someone else elected. And that's BS race/class/ageism and it's sucks, but here we are.
But you don't know what the stakes were? Like, what if you learn that Mitch was asked to vote this way so Avalos didn't lose face by nominating someone else and no one else wanted to do it? I may come to agree w you, it just seems like maybe we should let the paint dry and see what councilors say
Well this is terrible.
I hope I'm clear that coalition building doesn't supersede positions like a belief in fundamental rights. But also I'm a middle-aged cis white guy, if I'm not trying to build or better participate in a coalition I'm probably on the wrong side ;)
So you're mad about Green's choice although you don't know why he made it, however you aren't mad that more effort wasn't put to move Novick because you don't know why it was or wasn't?
I guess I think building a coalition is always important, but should never involve burning a bridge. (Before anyone asks racists and bigots already burned the bridge I don't have a need nor a responsibility to collaborate with them)
OK, so what was the strategy to get a 7th vote and are you mad that more effort wasn't put there?
