Just a reminder: if that guy can Wag the Dog by starting a war, and we all forget that he’s mentioned a million times in the Epstein Files, then we lost the fight and he won it.

Felix was a kind and generous person, more interested in knowing than in being admired or understood. He made my life better by leaps and bounds. We kept our friendship close over the years, but somehow there’s never enough of someone you really love. I will always wish that I had more.

It’s probvious, but if you think Lockdown Mode is important to you, then please turn off Screen Mirroring, Signal Desktop, FaceID, and TouchID.

To be clear: I’m adding the last sentence from whole cloth; they are discussing the consequences of the Norman Conquest through modern sociological tools. It’s MY opinion that the work has prismatic utility for comparing now to then.

If you don’t know The Authoritarians research, we are very lucky to have a valuable review available just now. Listen to the latest episode of the @thebhp.bsky.social (British History Podcast). Best microscope for understanding why Trump has power today.

I didn’t code switch this to literal until it was over. This is real?

I’m told that we would have to change building codes to allow housing in buildings without windows that open. I guess they worry that residents might not have a place to go if the building cooling system breaks.

Seems solvable, but is a real blocker today.

In the wristwatch department of Tokyu Hands, Shinjuku - photographer unknown. In his Author’s Note to Pattern Recognition, @greatdismal.bsky.social thanks Doug Coupland for buying him a coffee at the Hyatt, thereby cementing Cayce Pollard’s hotel stay *there* (rather than at the Imperial).

Hold your loved ones close today. Just found out that a distant ex has ceased to be with us. I wish that loneliness was extinct. Nobody deserves to find the bottom of the pit.

I think it's with his uncle. I very much enjoyed it reading it when it came out, but haven't gone back to it.

Just read it again also, and it’s a great reminder of what sane conservatives looked like. Also what advertising was before targeting.

Just read it again last week. Very good.

But _Interface_ (with his dad, iirc?) is a very good Manchurian Candidate.

🛰️ SATCOM Security Research project homepage for SATCOM Security: papers, source code, and recent satellite communications vulnerabilities.

This is amazing research by Nadia Heninger and her co-authors Wenyi Morty Zhang, Annie Dai, Keegan Ryan, Dave Levin and Aaron Schulman. TL;DR a huge number of satellite links over our heads are totally unencrypted. satcom.sysnet.ucsd.edu

MBIC, google is literally a trillion percent better than Microsoft at this. I get 2-3 calendar invites per day “Office renewal failed, Microsoft 365 access will be revoked.” from “Microsoft Billing”.

1 minute of manual filtering rules would fix it.

RAG sounds so good until you notice that it isn’t pasted into the output but pasted into the input, and then the machine spits out a pseudosynthesis of the truth…

I know Charlie Kirk valued debate and free speech because he blocked me for fact-checking his lies on Twitter and then put me on his organization's Professor Watchlist for writing a book he didn't like.

They won’t explain why my blocklist of genitalia violates standards. Just that it appears to be unacceptable to label a list of the content it contains.

“Microsoft Office Billing Failure” should be a pretty simple string to detect, Microsoft Office.
