One of my book clubs chose The Love of my Afterlife by Greenwood and I’m so thankful - probably would not have read it otherwise bc I’m not a fan of modern chick lit romance. But this was SO funny- literally laughed out loud many times- and quirky and sweet and had character growth and I LOVED it!

Universal healthcare is hard. Only 31 of the top 32 countries have managed it.
I just read Bog Queen, it was fantastic! So interesting to get the little tidbits of science, really well written, and the audiobook was even really well done and easy to listen to.
That’s awesome that you have the actual tools! I finagled something together with a printout and puffy paint last year during a book club session where we read a Louis Braille life story picture book🙃
I‘ve also read so many things from the education sphere recently that have been saying that kids getting a deep grasp of the basics is a big reason why we are seeing this dip in achievement in schools. Teachers not having time to stay w/ subjects isn’t helped by AI, but by less tests, more freedom.
Feels silly commenting the same book twice on your posts but Don’t Let the Forest In is a great example of this. I don‘t want to spoil it but definitely psychology threads running through the story, especially as you near the end. The MC is dealing w/ aftereffects of a traumatic event.
Don’t Let the Forest In. ✨Obsessable✨ It’s got horror, darkness, mystery, psychological thrills, and little mini fairy tales with illustrations throughout the book, that tie into the main story. It’s so unique and captivating. It will stick with you for a long time after you finish it.
Absolutely 2nd both of these! I just reread the Spell Shop and it holds up after a 2nd read. The islanders are such a great example of how society should work (well all except one lol)
We just finished the show Dispatches From Elsewhere, and it was just so inspiring & hopeful. ALL the feels, but overall it really left an impression of how important human connection is, and acceptance, and love. In books, I will suggest some classics: nearly the entirety of LM Montgomery’s works❤️
I haven’t even listed that I’ve started them on my Fable account. Much less kept up on here. I’ve read so many! But I finished The Enchanted Greenhouse today and it was *chef’s kiss*, so there ya go at least one person knows now😜
She has some heavy hitters. So good, but gird your emotional loins to read them lol
My dad is autistic, my full blooded brother is autistic, both of my children are autistic, their bio dad is autistic, my niece and nephew are autistic, and just two weeks ago my half sister, their mom, was saying she’s pretty certain she’s autistic. Tell me again how it’s Tylenol and vaccines??
Dang! I just borrowed the 1st in Libby so I’ll be starting after I finish The Incandescent. Thanks for the warning! Though I’ve ready so many incomplete series lately I fear I’m getting jaded to it🫣 I just try to immediately start a new book so I don’t wallow 🙃
How do specials teachers do this in 30 min/week? We need classroom management too, and when you see the entire school it’s hard to just know their NAMES, much less build a relationship in the 5 sec it takes to scan their book (librarian). I would gladly accept advice that doesn’t involve bribing.
I’m so frustrated by the lack of options for classroom management (esp in specials that see kids 30min/week) that don’t involve bribery. Or pitting kids against each other in “challenges”. These approaches feel wrong. Aren’t we supposed to be building empathy & cooperation & intrinsic motivation??
Super real for some of us in the metro Phoenix area of Arizona. It was 118 last week according to the thermometer on my porch. It’s flipping exhausting just existing when it’s that hot, even with AC in all buildings and vehicles.
WHY DOES EVERY MALE LOVE INTEREST IN EVERY FANTASY BOOK MAGICALLY SMELL LIKE CINNAMON ALL THE TIME??! Like, that’s not what men smell like! And the women…😫As if I needed one more thing to be insecure about, I have to worry that I don’t smell like fucking mint and flowers 24/7🤦♀️
I received my sticker order from Karen a few days ago and am totally in love, her work is SO GORGEOUS! She also included 2 sticker freebies including one w/a girl and a fox, and foxes are my daughter’s current obsession so she was ecstatic. Thank you Karen!🫶
Ah, I do that too! Love chai- that’s my 2nd fav. I do a rooibos or decaf version. Another iced tea blend that’s also tasty is spearmint and lemongrass. So refreshing and light. So nice to talk tea with someone☺️
“Tea, Earl Grey, Hot”- all the way baby! Except in the dead of summer and then I add a few ice cubes😜Also obsessed with the scent of bergamot, I just love bergamot I guess. Butterfly pea flower is amazing also if you haven’t tried any tea blends w/that ingredient yet. It makes a great iced tea!
Omg I ADORE Earl Grey! I have a London Fog pretty much daily- I make two tea lattes for work every day with collagen protein and one is always Earl Grey cuz it’s my fav. It’s just so comforting. I am also in the Phx area so I totally need these!
After all the absolute nonsense that happens- sending kids out to run in open air instead of staying inside a building?? Etc- the end is the biggest anticlimactic wtf I’ve ever seen where they just get into a car and start driving to a hospital. That’s IT. No explanations, no resolution, nothing.
I remember really enjoying Rear Window as a teen and watching it a couple times. I swear I’ve watched others but none made much of an impression on me I guess. I should have taken that as my directive to start w/ Rear Window I suppose but…birds!!
Highly do not recommend The Birds as the 1st Hitchcock film to show your teens. Wtf did we just watch. I’m all “Hitchcock is a film icon & legend we have to watch at least 1!” & we were talking about crows & birds all afternoon cuz autism so I thought this is great… they don’t trust me anymore😆
I adored it! Fantastic characters. So refreshing the FMC wasn’t 19😆 Eagerly awaiting the sequel. Star Eater was also really good if you want a stand-alone to cure the book hangover that’s coming when you finish Asunder…(if you’re anything like me😉)
They may have been trying to capture at least SOME profit off the perhaps millions? of us globally that don’t have access to the BBC & for whom DW is such an important part of our lives, we would pirate to watch if not streamable. I don’t care if it’s Disney but it needs to stream somewhere.
Why must I continue unknowingly reading part 1’s of multiple-book series??😭 Just finished #ShieldOfSparrows and damn- fantastic. I adore Odessa. I love all the mystery. But it very much leaves loose ends and now I have to wait for probably a year to get answers argh!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful soul with us🫶
#DoctorWho Wish World was another great episode. I love how they are bringing back but updating and refreshing the takes on classic Who characters/events. I am thoroughly invested in what’s happening and can’t wait to see how it’s resolved next week. (PLEASE let there be resolution!)
I just saw a post about how reading novels is so important to building empathy, but then I see your beautiful poetry and am struck by how effectively poetry does that as well. I think poetry is often our hearts and souls in print, and it’s so important to encourage reading it specifically too.
