'Appallingly short' of basic human dignity: Democrats demand answers about Mesa ICE facility Three Arizona Democrats demand DHS answers after finding Mesa ICE facility packed far beyond capacity with detainees on concrete floors

“Congress has a responsibility to ensure that all federal detention facilities operate in a manner consistent with the law and in accordance with basic human dignity. The conditions we observed are appallingly short of that standard and demand immediate remediation.”

“'I’ve never experienced anything like this in my entire life,' the congresswoman said, fighting back tears.

"She described the way people were laying down inside as “like sardines.”

“'It is frightening in there,' she said. 'It is disgusting'..."

Yesterday morning, the Mirror reported on how ICE's own data shows how overcrowded this Mesa facility has been -- and how ICE hid that from congressional Democrats in February.

Last night, three of those Democrats showed up unnanounced and were horrified by what they saw.

Why a surprise inspection? Because the last time they inspected this facility they had to give 7 days notice; and ICE moved almost everyone out of the facility before they got there, then filled it up again when they left. azmirror.com/2026/04/09/i...

They described people laying down inside "like sardines," many of them pleading for help. Some with fevers, all laying on concrete floors with no blankets.

Will have more on this in the morning hours.

Tucson Police had access to some of this tech. They purchased it using the state's Border Security fund. In documents provided to the Mirror they talked about using it to monitor protests and large scale events.

A composite image showing, at center, Corey Noel Scott, a white man with thinning dirty blonde hair and beard stubble wearing a black shot and smiling. The image of his face is up-close and in a circle with a light outline. Two other circles are floating in the image that read “PATRIOT FRONT MEMBER IDENTIFIED." That text is on a mock edit of a red, white and blue Patriot Front logo that crosses out their center fasces symbol with an X. Another floating image shows the red, white, and blue patch for Seal Team 7, which is a thin triangle facing downward with a large 7 in the center and the logo for the Navy on top of the 7, seven white stars are at the point of the triangle. All these images are sitting on top of a military group shot that’s faded in the background. The men in camo are holding up guns and a red, white and blue American flag and posing for the camera. Most soldiers are blocked by the various images except for one section where Corey Scott and Eddie Gallagher can be seen in sunglasses by the flag.
