perfectly fine games that "killed the series"

The values I previously gave were rounded values assuming a 1x scale factor, but the more you increase the scale factor, the bigger the discrepancy between the accurate aspect ratio and the rounded aspect ratio from 1x. Apologies for the previous inaccurate information.

I have updated the math and final aspect ratio values to be more accurate. The previous misleading numbers were given under the assumption that you always need to round to the nearest even pixel, but this is something you should only do on the final possible output.

The Phantom Menace was Sonic 06: yes it's bad, BUT fun can still be had from it

Attack of the Clones was Secret Rings: yeah there's no fun to be had here, that shit was bad

Revenge of the Sith was Unleashed: easily the best entry that came out of that era

Growing up liking 3D Sonic was like growing up liking the Star Wars prequels. The discourse online was once dominated by people who dont actually like the franchise, then the people who grew up liking the thing that was popular to hate eventually had a voice and suddenly it became popular to like it

Your Aspect Ratio is Wrong A guide to aspect ratio correction for retro console games

I wrote a guide on CRT-accurate aspect ratio correction for analog TV era retro games. This is mainly focused on NTSC because PAL50 standards are a whole different can of worms that I'm not familiar with, but I will be including PAL in the future. apasher.github.io/retro-gaming...

Hey Bluesky. I've been going hard on Guitar Hero these days. Got 2nd place in a GH2 tournament back in July, I'm at 60/70 FCs in GH3, got 5th at a GH3 tournament back in November, and beat my 15 year old Through the Fire and Flames score twice in the same day.

Nah I think Chrono Trigger clears Mario 64 any day of the week. Chrono Trigger to me is one of the greatest games of all time, and I think Mario 64 is heavily overrated. I like the later 3D Mario games a lot better

Mario 64 over Chrono Trigger is insane LMFAO

I'm finally playing Echoes of Wisdom and I'm enjoying it a lot. I haven't enjoyed a new Zelda game this much since A Link Between Worlds, and it's singlehandedly reminding me why I love Zelda games. It makes me hope that the next 3D Zelda takes a similar direction to Echoes of Wisdom.

OG Dragonball on the CRT :)

1 year ago 2 0 0 0

But the moment I first saw a higher quality video signal on a CRT, my immediate thoughts were "I never knew CRTs could look this good"

1 year ago 1 0 0 0

Part of me really wants to show RGB or Component on a consumer CRT to someone who's long abandoned CRTs. I feel like the people who associate CRTs with bad image quality have only ever seen RF/Composite video on one and didn't become conscious about higher quality video signals until HDTVs came out.

For now I'll settle with IPS MiniLED for flat panel gaming until MicroLED prices go down and become widely available to consumers (trust)

I wish OLEDs didn't have VRR flicker.

"Just turn off VRR" - at that point I might as well stick with CRT. One of the biggest advantages that flat panels have over CRTs is VRR
