"Sapiens": One page at a time I've been co-teaching a course for several years in which we read Sapiens . I think I've read it eight times, now. That explains the gumband...

I love this! The brilliant Holly Dunsworth is reviewing Sapiens, one page at a time, separating myth from fact… Let’s dive in!

Field of snow. This is an oil painting of the field a friend and I cross country skied through the other day. The snow was beautiful. The sky was, too.

Watercolor, pen and ink iguana, using a reference photo taken by my friend, an amazing photographer, when she was in Florida. This was fun.

What’s True About the Evolution of Men’s Greater Average Height? Why men are taller than women may have nothing to do with testosterone—or sexual selection.

There’s nothing wrong with common sense until you dig a little and learn that common sense is wrong. Thanks @profgalloway.com for providing a great example of common sense that I’ve gotten a kick out of doubting. Thanks @prosocialworld.bsky.social for hosting.

Loss After Loss The Essence of the Thing As most often now, Ken was sleeping when I entered his room.  He opened his eyes, said hello, and dozed off again. ...

I’ve written a blog post about my husband’s dementia. No, about dementia, about reality.

With Trump and his minions always in the background — so much cruelty all the time — it’s good to draw and paint. Here’s yesterday’s watercolor of my cat, Oliver.

This is a book review but it’s also an exploration of death. Aren’t they all?

There’s a small nest in a small tree on a path near me. I don’t know who built it, and it was never finished, and I think it’s beautiful. I’ve been drawing it in its different iterations for months. Here it is after the leaves on the tree opened. Pen and ink.

I wanted to cancel one of the lines on my Verizon account. I was hoping I could do it without calling, but couldn’t find that option. So I asked.
