I've been creating very raw poetry for several days now. It is part of a thing I call: The Belonging Project. It's way of trying to bring all of us together in better ways. And because I haven't posted much of it in this space as of yet, I'm going to create a thread here where you can catch up.
Poem #6 of the Belonging Project. Yesterday’s poem was inspired by a conversation I had with someone that day. The poem, Money or People - The Business of Belonging, is dedicated to Reverend Jay Ragsdale of Fill the Pot Hope Center.

We do not move into having a world where all of us can belong with going to war with others, but by building understanding that will help hearts open up. By building emotional resonance that will change how people think. By building the world as we want it to be: One where all of us breathe free.
The purpose of these poems is not to attack political figures. It is not to attack people. I am okay with attacking behavior. The purpose of these poems is to support people who are hurting. People who are scared. People who need to be seen and understood.
We are at a place in our history where we can choose to fight back or we can choose to build. I spent a lifetiime as a warrior and I know how easily those who are fighting can be manipulated thus I am choosing to build.
Starting this Monday, I'm going to start posting poetry about the things that I see going on in the world at this time that hurt people. I would love to hear from people on issues they would like to hear about and have love and support offered towards communities.
I would like to take this deeper.
When the humanity of one man is threatened the humanity of all of us is under attack.
Rights isn't enough. We must all be able to experience what it is like to enjoy our humanity. Anything less leaves us with a misunderstanding of what it is to be human.
No?
Yeah, not me either. I have no idea what I was talking about above. Let's just pretend that I didn't say anything. Right? Right. Glad we had this chat.
Ever spend a massive chunk of your life taking care of a tiny human only to realize at some point that as you've focused so much on them that you've lost track of a variety of threads (actually probably like different sections of the weave) in your life?
The hard part is synthesizing all of the information I've learned into practices that will make the world a better place. Might be time to read some fiction for a while so I can do that important work.

Picture of the book "The Science of Storytelling."
So far this year I've read three books. The first was "The Science of Storytelling" by WIll Storr. The second was "Supercommunicators" by Charles Duhigg. And the third was "Spirit Hacking" by Shaman Durek. Three books in two weeks feels really good. (1/2)
