The Charter of Rights and Freedoms turns 44 this week.
Our rights are only as secure as our neighbour's.
You don't have to agree with how someone else lives. But the moment you try to take away their rights, you weaken your own. That's the whole point.

Congratulations to Danielle Martin, Doly Begum, and Tatiana Auguste on their by-election wins and for their hard work throughout the campaign. What a team! I couldn't be happier to have these three amazing women in our caucus.
Our Liberal caucus is now over 40% women!

Solidarity, inclusivity, and equality. That’s what our Liberal Party stands for.
British Columbians are deeply disturbed to see President Trump threaten “a whole civilization.” We want the people of Iran to be free from Iran’s oppressive regime. Threatening innocent Iranians does not achieve that goal.
Georgia Voter: It's giving war crime. You can't do that. We don't just annihilate people because we can and, you know, make a grab for the money and the oil. And that's what we've done in Venezuela. And that's what we're doing in Iran.
There is no excuse for downplaying or eliding the insanity of Trump’s morning post. It is the most unhinged public comment by a president in US history and should be reported and remarked upon as such.

MP Will Greaves with a group of local craft brewers who gathered at Phillips Brewing in Victoria, B.C. for the federal announcement of excise duty relief on Canadian craft brewers.
Great turnout at Phillips Brewing today for the announcement of two years of excise duty relief for Canadian craft breweries. Thanks to all who joined.
Craft brewing is a cornerstone of Victoria’s local economy — this announcement means more room to grow, hire, and keep doing what they do best. 🍺
Canada "condemns" Israel's "illegal" invasion of Lebanon as a violation of territorial sovereignty, Prime Minister Mark Carney said Tuesday.
How touching and remarkable that he lived just long enough to see his son @avilewis.ca continue their family's tradition of leadership in the NDP. My thoughts and condolences go out to the Lewis family and all who were inspired by Stephen's remarkable life of service and integrity.

I am saddened to hear of the death of Stephen Lewis, a great Canadian and humanitarian whose leadership the global fight against HIV/AIDS helped save the lives of millions.

He started a war with no reason and no plan, sending the world into a crisis solely of his own creation, and now he's angrily bitching that other countries need to clean up his mess.
🚨BREAKING: Canada now meets the NATO 2% defence‑spending target. In 2015, Conservatives had pushed it below 1% (the only time in Canadian history).
Today, we’re at our commitment—and still increasing investment to match the world we’re in.
Thank you for the kind words, Philomena!

Craft breweries. Firefighters. World-leading ocean science and aerospace research. We brought PS for Industry Karim Bardeesy to see it all firsthand this week — because Ottawa needs to know what's being built right here in Victoria.

I spend most of my time these days MP-ing on behalf of the people of Victoria, but given the gravity of recent events involving Russia, Ukraine, China, Greenland, and the US, I'm glad to see my academic work connecting with these timely and critical issues for Canada.
You can find the article here:
We find climate change is universally seen as the greatest Arctic security issue; Russia is seen as a threat to other Arctic states; China is not; and USA has been supported by all Arctic states but Russia.
These data will help assess change in Arctic security opinion due to <cough> recent events.
