A reminder that the Vietnam peace talks lasted from 1968 to 1973; the "marathon" Iran talks took place in less than a day.
I think the short attention span of Trump and everyone around him is a part of our trouble.

And here’s the really important part:
If a clean energy reform slate can break through even inside a structurally skewed governance system, that tells you where the politics of energy are headed.
2026 will be the year that electricity affordability is on every ballot nationwide.
that really hurts and sucks. i wish you did not have to go through that.
Areal photo of a solar farm in Texas showing panels all the way to the horizon. A dirt road cuts through the farm and a car is seen speeding along.
An offshore wind farm in the Dutch North Sea.
A solar powered bike sharing station in Washington DC. In the background a DC Metro bus is visible.
A bicycle with front and rear rack full of groceries.
Rising oil prices make daily transport, energy, and daily life more expensive, but renewable energies, public transport, and bikes offer cheaper, sustainable alternatives.
We already have the tech for independent energy, to ease financial pressure, and lower pollution at the same time.
Starting the countdown for when we find out this guy "teleported" into some little girl's room.
“Climate scientists at World Weather Attribution published an analysis Friday that found this heat wave would be ‘virtually impossible for this time of year in a world without human-induced climate change.’”
The Trump Administration attempted to make an example of Minnesota during Operation Metro Surge.
Instead, Minnesotans set an example for the rest of the country that decency and compassion will always triumph over fear and division.

It's like your dysfunctional drunk dumbass uncle, who always embarrasses you at the familiy BBQ, only the family BBQ is global politics.
I have a drought joke, but only those with a dry sense of humor will get it.
T*p has such a rapist attitude.. ‘Trump bragged to Fox entertainer Peter Doocy that " I do believe I'll be having the honor of taking Cuba" and that "I think I can do anything I want with it."’
We haven’t forgotten about Epstein.
The distraction. Isn’t. Working.
From the always on-point Sue Halpern, a good catalogue of GOP efforts to disenfranchise voters. It's what they've got left.

I don't think most people grasp the insane amount of resources that the US allocates to weapons and war machines. The list of better things we could do with the military budget is nearly endless.
Omnishambles. Lethal venality. Kakistocracy. Every day surpasses w a new outrage that it is almost possible to keep track of. DOGE. ICE. Venezuela. USIP. NSF. NCAR. Iran. Big Bend. USAID. SAVE ACT. Kennedy Center. VOA. RFK Jr. Just a litany of awfulness and awful people.
Trump and the right wing spin machine engage in pre-lying as a tactic. For example, they have already started to spin lies about the election integrity of the midterms based on no evidence. Can you spot other examples of pre-lying? Drop them in the comments!
Watching expansion of ICE and detention centers is like watching the Death Star being built and having your conservative relative shrug and say, “well, sometimes you have to destroy a planet to preserve order in the galaxy.”
There is a solid chance we are not getting a coherent response as to the reason for the war with Iran because one of the many real aims may be to provoke Iran into making a terror attack on the US - allowing the administration to grab more power.
🤣
We have always been at war with Oceania.
…and she found contentment within herself and her incredibly supportive friends and community? 😊
This report, unfortunately, is timed perfectly with the release of my new JPSP article on apocalyptic thinking. Apocalyptic rhetoric is not new, and we are beginning to understand the psychology underlying it. Pre-print available free on my website: www.matthewibillet.com

You make my immense frustration feel seen.
Republicans use Iran strikes to pressure Dems in DHS funding fight.
I have concerns that starting a fight with Iran was done to keep the fascism train rolling at home by keeping funding flowing to the DHS mega prisons and ICE.
What if I'd told you in, say, 2010, in the wake of the Iraq War and the subsequent political upheaval: "yeah, not only will we not learn our lesson, not only will none of the people who perpetrated this crime be punished ... we're going to do it all over again! Less than 20 years later!"
The kerfluffle over the hockey teams does make one wonder if the rightwing cares quite as much about women's sports as it's been insisting...
We seem to be nearing the heart of the story, and a lot will depend on the nerve of the journalists--NPR, the NYT, etc--to stay on this story relentlessly. Will they give it the same kind of coverage they gave Biden's age--i.e., full bore, around the clock, 50 opeds?

More than 2,000 people gathered on Capitol Hill to worship, sing and march to bring attention to the plight of immigrants in the United States. The event brought together United Methodist bishops, clergy and laity alongside faith leaders from several traditions. www.umnews.org/en/news/unit...
Here's alt text for this image: **Alt text:** A two-panel comparison graphic. The top panel is titled "Tobacco companies trying to mislead the public" and shows a scanned excerpt from an internal tobacco industry document stating "Doubt is our product since it is the best means of competing with the 'body of fact' that exists in the mind of the general public" — a strategy of manufacturing public controversy despite internal acknowledgment that cigarettes are harmful. The bottom panel is titled "Climate Working Group emails" and shows a text excerpt stating "About all I can hope is that what we write will provide sufficient 'reasonable scientific doubt' regarding the science claims in the 2009 TSD, based upon almost 2 decades of new science, to call into question the original reasoning for the EPA Administrator's decision that CO2 presents a threat to human health and welfare." The juxtaposition draws a parallel between tobacco industry disinformation tactics and the climate denial strategy reflected in the DOE Climate Working Group communications.

Ladies, the SAVE Act is a misogynist piece of garbage bill designed to start killing a woman’s right to vote by a thousand paper cuts. This bill is brought to us by the same tech bros who think women vote for too many social programs, like healthcare. Call your Senators.
