Check out the latest edition of InTouch magazine for an article that I wrote about Ireland’s achievements in literacy. As the title suggests, we are doing very well internationally, but that’s not the whole story. Read the article to find out more…

Read this yesterday which was similar - if the point is to learn by reading/writing, it's probably worth doing the hard/long way. I find LLMs to be enormously useful in other spaces (it's actually pretty good, I think, about teaching Socratically)

Someone asked me why I don’t let AI summarize reading for me or write drafts and the answer is that either of those shortcuts would eliminate the process of thinking. And the thinking is the important part.
Even accepting the premise that AI produces useful writing (which no one should), using AI in education is like using a forklift at the gym. The weights do not actually need to be moved from place to place. That is not the work. The work is what happens within you.

Niamh Watkins on DEIS literacy initiatives…this one is right up my street. Anyone who knows me, knows why! #EdChatIE #ESAI25
Next, Ursula Murphy on intercultural education in Junior Cycle English. Again, much work needed here, particularly in terms of diversifying the teacher workforce. #EdChatIE #ESAI25
Lorraine Chadwick brought some fascinating insights from the voices of students undertaking CBAs in the Junior Cycle. As a parent of two teens, this was very interesting. Much work needed here! #EdChatIE #ESAI25

I fear you may be right, Ciara. There’s no way they can work through the waiting lists without delegating the work to another sector…
