It’s an atrocity and inexcusable that an individual like this is leading our national health agenda. Contact your local/state/ national congressional leaders to boldly protect health science from this ignorant, dangerous leader. Now is the time to defend evidence-based health policy in the USA!
Great coverage of my bioengineering & data science dissertation research at the ISB with Profs. Sean Gibbons and Leroy Hood. Thank you @usatoday.com and @gibbological.bsky.social!
Thank you Vice News for covering my team and I’s research on bowel movement differences in healthy adults and the impact during my doctoral study at the @isbscience.org & @uwseattle.bsky.social with Prof Sean Gibbons at @gibbological.bsky.social
Enjoy the article!

This is why it’s important to know the context to the science!
Great coverage of our recent work on the impacts of bowel movement frequency on the body in the BBC: www.bbc.com/future/artic...

Question: Why do U.S. universities receive a lower rate than international universities? Answer: The foundation has an important relationship with university grantees to perform valuable work projects, including but not limited to discovery research, vaccine development, and clinical trials. The foundation’s policy considers that U.S. universities should request a limited amount of indirect costs from private funders. In the U.S., indirect costs recoveries are negotiated with federal funding agencies because most U.S. funded research is performed on university campuses. Therefore, the foundation’s policy is to provide a rate of up to 10% to U.S. universities to allow for additional administrative and overhead costs of the institution to be funded by other sources.
When people bring up that foundations such as the Gates foundation pay only 10% indirects, please be aware that these foundations explicitly expect the US Government to cover the majority of the indirects.

Colleagues in #PuertoRico just told me that the pause in funding cuts to grants from NIH does not include US territories! Support for administrative costs (real expenses)
@uprrp.bsky.social is going from 49% to 15%, a huge blow to a system already suffering staggering cuts by @fombpr.bsky.social
Johannes showed how bowel movement frequency (BMF) was strongly associated with both the gut microbiome and the blood metabolome in Cell Reports Medicine. Constipation & diarrhea were associated with toxic microbial metabolites & organ stress. Check the altmetric on this one doi.org/10.1016/j.xc...

So cool that our group's work (along with our amazing collaborators) is getting this recognition again, for the third year in a row 🎉
