What Was Turkopticon Up To In 2025? - Turkopticon As we move into 2026, we want to take a moment to reflect on what 2025 looked like for Turkopticon and for the data workers whose labor makes today’s AI systems possible. Despite making critical contributions to the booming AI industry, data workers often report that they aren’t treated like the skilled, valuable workers that they are.

So, from @alphabetworkersunion.org to @turkopticon.bsky.social, data workers are organizing for better pay and working conditions.

Meet the AI workers who tell their friends and family to stay away from AI When the people making AI seem trustworthy are the ones who trust it the least, it shows that incentives for speed are overtaking safety, experts say

Our very own @brookh.bsky.social and @kristap.bsky.social shared with Varsha Bansal the concerns they have with AI from the perspective of workers who are fine-tuning it.

What if you had a job that was paid hourly, but between tasks, you just had to wait online, unpaid, yet ready to go at any moment?

This is the reality for many of the people in the U.S. who train AI for multibillion-dollar companies.

Microsoft cancels Israeli spy unit access after tech worker revolt In a stunning and massive development, tech giant Microsoft has announced that it is terminating parts of the Israeli military’s access to proprietary technology that it was using to conduct mass surveillance and targeting of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. “Microsoft told Israeli officials late last week that Unit 8200, the military’s elite spy agency, had violated the company’s terms of service by storing the vast trove of surveillance data in its Azure cloud platform,” the Guardian reports. “The termination is the first known case of a US technology company withdrawing services provided to the Israeli military since the beginning of its war on Gaza.” This major development would not have happened without the joint-investigative work of reporters at The Guardian, +972 Magazine, and Local Call exposing Microsoft’s complicity with Unit 8200’s mass-surveillance campaign, but it also would not have happened without the disruptive protests by tech workers within Microsoft. In this panel discussion, we speak with three fired Microsoft tech workers and members of the “No Azure for Apartheid” campaign—Nisreen Jaradat, Julius Shan, and Anna Hattle—about the role workers have played in pressuring Microsoft to end its complicity in Israel’s war crimes. When workplaces are considering deploying new technology, how often are the workers themselves part of the process?

Not often enough, despite them being best positioned to advocate for a different and more inclusive approach to tech design, based on their unique expertise.

You Need to Know This About Prime Day Deals YouTube video by More Perfect Union

For years, Prime Day has exacerbated worker injuries.

Instead of cutting back, Amazon doubled the number of Prime Days this month.

One warehouse worker told us, “I’m tired of there being an ambulance at my job site almost every night."

Major decision out of the Northern District of California. AI training on copyrighted material is fair use under the copyright act. This will have major implications for the AI industry and artists having their work stolen by AI companies.
