Mayor Zohran Mamdani behind the counter of a bodega in The Bronx, flanked by various people. A journalist with a microphone labeled “Shop Cats” is standing in front of the sales counter, and holding the mic up to a black and white cat sitting on the counter next to bananas. The cat has an expression like in the famous “Sir, are you aware that you are a cat” meme

JUST IN: Viktor Orban conceded his defeat in Hungary.

The far-right leader & Trump ally will no longer be prime minister.

What remains to be seen is the size of his defeat — and whether the opposition wins a supermajority to amend the constitution and reverse Orban’s rule.

Remember when that old clockmaker guy implied he knew Rambaldi (“He never did tell me what it meant”) and then Sydney jumped out the building and that never went anywhere.

Once again:
A) This would be handing two of Hollywood's only remaining studios to a right-wing Trump ally and his "Dad said I could have it!" son, who

B) has not begun to prove that he can successfully run one studio, let alone two.

An utter disaster, although in fairness, that is Zaslav's brand.

And LC is really interesting, too, in the way that it reveals gaps in our medical norms, safety net, and culture. Illness and disability are two forms of marginalization that mainstream culture disregard—to the point where both LC and ableism have become punchlines on both the left and the right.

Mamdani: That’s how I felt when we came up with this plan. Together, we will expand the idea of what is possible in our city—and what sounds and noises we can make at a press conference.

I’m so sick of people throwing their hands up and saying abolishing ICE isn’t possible right now. Abolishing ICE is extremely popular and calls to do so will only continue to grow, meanwhile conservatives manage to do incredibly unpopular things all the time because nobody stops them

This morning, Ms. Rachel and I visited District 2 Pre-K Center, where we sang and read with the wonderful students and educators. We also discussed universal childcare - and how we're making it happen for NYC!

This war will destabilize the entire region and set off a global shockwave of anti-Americanism vs. no it won’t

when i describe the american condition as one of existential shame, i don’t mean that every individual person should walk around bedeviled by personal guilt, but rather that the unusually high quality of life & safety most americans get to enjoy comes at a cost few of us have to worry about

This is such an empty-brain statement from CBS. The government murdering people on boats and sending people to CECOT are contrary to the rule of law, so what’s their point?

I really think we need to stop trying to return to pre-2020 and push beyond where we were.

We can allow COVID to change how we approach disease or we can decide that we're going to end up in the same exact situation when the next pandemic hits.

Mamdani: I have been told that this is the occasion to reset expectations, that I should use this opportunity to encourage the people of New York to ask for little and expect even less. I will do no such thing. The only expectation I seek to reset is that of small expectations.

The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York by plaintiff Kevin Lynch, a known agitator against diversity and equity initiatives in the American theatre. Lynch, who is a cis white man, previously filed a federal complaint with the NEA against Maestra Music, an advocacy group that elevates and supports female and nonbinary musicians, arguing that its training programs discriminate against male musicians. Lynch is an active member and essayist for the organization Fair For All, a non-profit dedicated to dismantling diversity, equity, and inclusion programs across the United States.

UPDATE: It was very unfair of me to suggest that the plaintiff is a tool of a law firm. It turns out he is awful in his own right. From Playbill:

If Weiss had more skill she could have spiked the CECOT segment much earlier in the process because it didn‘t reveal enough new information about a widely reported story. This would also have been a terrible decision, but would at least display some knowledge of how things actually work.

I am sure the 60 Minutes report on CECOT was very well done, but what makes the decision to kill it even more damning is that CBS was hardly out on a limb on this story. It has been extremely well documented and reported by many journalists.
