Something unthinkable happened today: Vickie Paladino, a NIMBY Republican, voted to approve new housing in her district.
Why now? November's @YesOnAffHousing.bsky.social ballot measures have completely changed the landscape of housing approvals in NYC.
NYC's first Expedited Land Use Review Procedure (ELURP) project is underway!
A @nychousing.bsky.social disposition to create 84 100% affordable homes on a city-owned lot in Mott Haven will move through the new 90-day review process created by Charter reforms voters approved last fall. ๐๏ธ๐๏ธ
In a historic district (NoHo Historic District Extension)
If everyone reacting to this incredulously/asking why we canโt have nice things could take a few mins to email Manhattan CB 2 about how the proposed projectโs design and aesthetics are appropriate for the historic district that would be great. ๐ซถ๐ป

EXCLUSIVE: The city is prepping its appeal of a court order to rip up Astoria's 31st Street protected bike lane โ but will simultaneously push to get the redesign installed this spring by completing a minor bureaucratic step that the Adams administration failed to complete. buff.ly/6WqQpqJ

New Yorkers are sick and tired of the housing crisis. Thanks to our new mayor and big wins to expand affordable housing across New York City, we finally have the chance to start building homes for every New Yorker.
Our victory on Tuesday was historic, but the campaign for an affordable NYC is just beginning. Our Time will organize to win and defend the affordability agenda that resonated with voters and brought out more than 100,000 volunteers. Sign up today and weโll share much more soon! (link in bio)
When I phone bank or canvass Iโm reminded of how many people are too busy just trying to survive to engage with politics. Feeling so grateful for all the @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social + @yesonaffhousing.bsky.social volunteers and @opennewyork.org members today.
Six more hours! Letโs get it done! ๐ณ๏ธ
Graphic reading Zohran Voted Yes on Props 2,3,4, & 5! Vote by 9pm! Paid for by Yes on Affordable Housing disclosure.
@zohrankmamdani.bsky.social has already proven that nothing changes unless we change it.
Today, by joining Zohran and voting YES on Proposals 2 through 5, New Yorkers are wielding the power of our votes to change the course of our cityโs future. @opennewyork.org
Letโs go!! @yesonaffhousing.bsky.social ๐๏ธ ๐๏ธ ๐ณ๏ธ
โWe know what New York City's current land-use regime has to offerโฆ a crippling housing shortage that gives landlords the upper hand against tenants.โ
Time for a change!
Vote @yesonaffhousing.bsky.social (YES on Props 2-5) today! ๐๏ธ ๐๏ธ ๐ณ๏ธ
If you haven't voted yet, today's the day! Vote for @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social and remember to flip your ballot and vote YES on ballot proposals 2, 3, 4, and 5 so New Yorkers can get the affordable housing we desperately need!
I'll be canvassing all weekend and on Election Day for @yesonaffhousing.bsky.social! ๐ณ๏ธ ๐๏ธ Feel free to DM me if you want to get involved with poll site visibility for these important housing proposals ๐ค
And the process these charter amendments (props 2-5) seek to improve!
โLow-density zoning and ULURP were not designed to protect tenants, they havenโt protected tenants in the past two decades, and they wonโt protect tenants in the future. If we want [social housing], we need to build it โ and we need to change the rules to make that possible.โ Letโs go! Yes on 2-5!
Short explanation of what the deal is with "affordability" in the housing ballot proposals, since people have lots of questions - mainly stemming from the fact that our existing system is so complicated to begin with! (Explanation first, some personal commentary after)
Fun surprise guest at the @thewaroncars.bsky.social book event tonight: @bradlander.bsky.social! A legend for many reasons, including his defense of the Prospect Park West bike lane and advocacy for the expansion of @citibikenyc.bsky.social as a member of the New York City Council.
If you care about homelessness and affordable housing, I cannot stress how important it is to vote โ
YES on #2-4.
Without these reforms, there's no way we can address the housing crisis in NYC that is causing historic highs in homelessness.
As promised, here's a longer explanation of why you should vote YES on all the NYC ballot initiatives EXCEPT #6

โ
YES on #5
๐ซ NO on #6
It's true! Many DSA members and @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social supporters *also* support questions 2-4! At the 41-minute mark in this segment, you can hear me and @aschierenbeck.bsky.social on the Brian Lehrer show on @wnyc.org discussing why these are pro-labor proposals: www.wnyc.org/story/the-ho...
NYC: Vote YES on ballot props 2-4. We at DSA' Social Housing campaign @housethefuture.bsky.social support them to move affordable and social housing along at the city AND state levels.
