Receiving a transplant before dialysis can mean fewer hospital visits, less use of single-use medical materials, less energy & water consumption from dialysis treatments.

On World Kidney Day 2026, π—˜π—žπ—œπ—§π—” highlights an important message!

We have seen (in approx 40), transient early ⬆️cr which we have put down to fluid ⬇️/gi effects. No significant changes in fk levels. De novo use only from 1 yr at the moment.

So much to be learnt from >28k recruits, about protection of immunocompromised individuals (who do not all have the same risk), both from COVID and future viral outbreaks

Thx to a brilliant team - many not on Bluesky. @kidneydoc101.bsky.social will need to coax them on!

Transfusion-specific alloimmune responses following blood transfusion pre–kidney transplantation It is widely accepted that blood transfusions can cause allosensitization, but it is often reported that new human leukocyte antigen (HLA) antibodies are nonspecific and transient. This study explores the effect of blood transfusion on allosensitization in waitlisted transplant patients including the development of transfusion-specific antibodies (TSAs), while they remain on the waiting list, with longitudinal follow-up of subsequent transplantation. A total of 105 blood donors of transfusions received by 50 patients on the transplant waiting list were HLA typed.

Thanks @theisn.org for selecting.

New paper in series just out in AJT too - highlights the importance of avoiding pre-transplant transfusions where possible.
