It all came back, it was the bit where they got stuck in the mines I couldn't get through. The sense of claustrophobia in a world that was already disturbing was just too much. Maybe this is why potholing is just about the worst possible leisure activity I can think of!

It's somehow more disappointing when the ones you thought might be different turn out not to be

Well Nick Clegg turned out to be a moral void. What a disappointment

LU staff here: that presence does allow us to deal with certain incidents far quicker than you can on a system with fewer staff. Often so quickly that customers wouldn't even notice a delay.

Oh great, this feels like a challenge now, I think I'll listen to the episode first and assess!

I started reading it as a kid & found it so disturbing I couldn't finish, only time that's ever happened to me. I do occasionally wonder if I should try again as an adult

Coming from the UK this is always wild to see in other countries. A few exceptions for things like trams but our railways have had to be fenced by law pretty much since their inception.

Don't say it out loud, they might change their minds about DfT!

Have used the parallel to A23 national cycle route & can confirm it's a bad joke & straight up dangerous in places.

I do an occasional journey to West Wales that's a similar price differential. It's definitely at the limit of what I'm prepared to pay. But as always if you add a second person rail is desperately uncompetitive assuming you already own a car.

It doesn't though really. There's a premium for Heathrow (also the case for the Piccadilly line) & different fares apply outside zone 6 but that's also the case on the met line. Otherwise it's treated as part of the underground.

At this point I feel like my phone is taunting me with its unawareness of shift work.

DEFRA just released its annual statistics on bathing water quality.

I remember a lot of very offended Tory MPs, after they voted in a law in Jan 2023 they claimed would improve things, because others said it was a license to pollute. ~AA

We sold Eurostar tickets at Richmond station. Initially we had to book over the phone & they were posted to us for the customer to collect! Then we got Tribute & were actually able to print them, always looked slightly different to those though. How times change!

I wonder if the correct decision at a number of stations would have been to keep the open countered travel centres but close the traditional ticket office? It was a much easier environment to provide decent customer service & to work in.
