Elections have begun for Unite’s ruling Executive Council. rs21 members in Unite argue that they are important for every socialist.

UCU staff are not the enemy. It’s beyond time for the GS to talk to us.

A review of the "How To Win A Strike" briefing I wrote for @troubl3makers.bsky.social. You can now pre-order a printed pamphlet as well as downloading a PDF or buying an ePub.
This is a thread about UCU & what it has become over the last few years. But the first thing I want to say is I didn’t join a union to stay silent or turn my back on a single parent of three facing dismissal on the basis of their trade union activities. Marie Monaghan is the Unite UCU 1/12

How To Win A Strike: A Troublemakers At Work briefing pack by Ian Allinson. PDF: Free ePub: £1 56-page colour pamphlet: TBC Workers strike because it is an effective weapon against the rich and powerful. A strike can disrupt the production and distribution of products, the delivery of services, the flow of profits and the smooth running of society. Whether you are a first-time striker or an experienced activist, this briefing pack aims to help you make your next strike a success by drawing on previous strikers' good and bad experiences. https://troublemakersat.work/win
I've written this "How To Win A Strike" briefing pack for Troublemakers At Work, drawing on the experience of lots of previous strikers. You can get a copy via troublemakersat.work/win. @troubl3makers.bsky.social
Given how close the election was, it will be harder for the CO to do their usual thing of claiming any discrepancies wouldn't have made any difference.
I have witnessed injustice after injustice occur to members of @uniteucu.bsky.social - utterly shameful to see UCU threaten the livelihood of a single mother of 3 for being a TU health and safety representative and fighting for a safer workplace. This threatens the wellbeing of a whole family.
I've written this to discuss the Employment Rights Act and how we might respond to the difficulty of passing ballot turnout thresholds in big bargaining units - which Labour has set no timetable to repeal.

I've just asked Andy Burnham to tell TfGM to respect transport workers' bargaining rights. Can you add your name too? www.megaphone.org.uk/petitions/re...

TfGM workers are striking again Wednesday and Friday this week. On Friday, the workplace day of action for climate, join their march to the @rmtunion.bsky.social Carlisle Support Services picket. Transport workers are central to tackling climate breakdown. stopthedrop.uk/action
So you don't think Camden or Greater Manchester are Labour run?
I don't work at a council, but for the strike at TfGM last year we couldn't get press stuff out nationally - nothing on the unison website until we had already won. No visit to Camden traffic wardens strike, right by UNISON HQ.
Funny that when McAnea so clearly is putting her loyalty to Starmer's Labour Party before UNISON policy or supporting members in Labour-run employers.
It looks like there will be just two candidates for UNISON leader – Christina McAnea and Andrea Egan. Elections can generate waffle and confusion. I've picked through their manifestos for actionable pledges – stripping out the vague and aspirational.

I wrote a piece about the importance of the UNISON General Secretary election for the whole left, and what you can do. @andrea4gs.bsky.social

On Tuesday I'm running this online discussion - check out workers-can-win.info/meeting for more details and registration
The 2025 UNISON General Secretary election has now begun. I am standing to be our union's first ever lay member General Secretary.
If elected as General Secretary I will fight for higher pay for all of us and I will only take the wage of a social worker. Support my campaign: andrea4gs.org.uk
You can join most of it online if you can't make it in person.
According to this armed officer in Kent, simply holding a Palestine flag and displaying 'Free Gaza' and 'Israel is committing Genocide' is possible grounds for arrest for supporting Palestine Action (and for unlawfully taking personal details)
We have had a report saying two women walking up to a protest today at BAe Samlesbury were stopped by Lancashire Police and advised to remove their t-shirts that say 'Free Palestine', as it may "breach the proscription order".
And so it begins.
Today, after 14 years, I’m resigning from the Labour Party.
Jeremy Corbyn and I will co-lead the founding of a new party, with other Independent MPs, campaigners and activists across the country.
Join us. The time is now.

Participatory, democratically organised, without political affiliation.
A Unite aerospace rep writes about how union members in his workplace defeated a transphobic attack after the Supreme Court judgement. Supporting trans people isn’t just vital for trade unionists – raising political issues like this can help build workplace organisation.
