There's no built-in AI in Zotero, but various plugins allow users to chat with PDFs from their Zotero library-though these often come with costs. Many academic AI search tools also offer some level of Zotero integration. I've added a new page to my Zotero libguide.

No deal with SAGE Publishing – What next? As often happens, a major academic publisher has set unreasonable demands in its contract negotiations with the Consortium of Swiss Academic Libraries, and Swiss universities will start 2026 without a contract to access new publications in SAGE journals, nor possibilities to publish articles open access in these. What does this mean, how does this affect researchers, and how can you help in our struggle against attempts at implementing leonine contracts?

Why shouldn’t your PhD thesis be accessible to everyone? A PhD thesis is the result of many years of hard work, and the author generally hopes it will be the start of a successful academic career. But quite often, it is only read by the authors themselves and their supervisors. Who should be allowed to access it, and how? Our colleague Catherine Brendow discusses the main reasons why PhD students are generally reluctant to make their thesis accessible.

“The Seed of the Sacred Fig” by Mohammad Rasoulof: Woman, Life, Freedom Iman, an honest man, is appointed as an investigator for the Tehran Revolutionary Courts. This should delight his wife and two daughters. However, following the death of Mahsa Amini—arrested by the police for wearing an inappropriate headscarf—riots erupt in the capital. This new job will finally get them the four-room apartment they've been waiting for, the dishwasher they've been dreaming of, and a few rungs up the social ladder.

Geneva Peace Week 2025 Give peace a chance! Many people would agree with this sentence, especially those living in places like Gaza or Kyiv. Geneva has claimed to be the capital of peace for more than a century. Our Institute is located in the Maison de la Paix and hosts a specialised research centre - no wonder that peace in all its dimensions is a key theme in our collections.

Democracy week, October 1-9: Reinventing democracy At the end of the Cold War, Francis Fukuyama believed that Western liberal democracy would become the universal form of government. However, the times they are a-changin, and today, it seems that history is repeating itself as a farce, with the 2020s bearing a striking resemblance to the 1930s. It's not a surprise, then, that democracy has become a key topic in our collection.

Democracy Week is coming soon! A quick look at our selection on display in the Library.
