Mangled headline sounds like cop wrongly imprisoned for killing self
Weirdly I just posted this mangled Guardian headline today
A screenshot of a newspaper headline is badly/confusingly written to suggest that a cop was wrongfully imprisoned for murdering himself
Sometimes it’s not easy being both an editor and a reader of headlines 🤪
The last line of that story is one of my all-time favorite lines ever

Interesting read in Wired where attempted payment triggered a determination that the a published story was an “AI fabrication.” Not the same as your situation but interesting that it has a similar stress point

A smashed birdhouse on the ground is paired with a picture of Betty Davis in a Mary Poppins hat, eating a piece of fried chicken. The caption reads “Fat birds!

If you haven’t yet confirmed that the writer is who they say they are, it could be an imposter or plagiarizer. I’ve seen suspected plagiarizers balk when asked to do something (meet face to face on Zoom, etc) that would force their true identity out in the open.

Screenshot of One Story's Instagram post that includes a quote from me, Jeff Bond, Fiction Editor at Epiphany: "Writing and editing aren't generally thought of as visual skills, but in many ways, they are. The way you use white space on the page can invite reader to take a breath, think about what they've just read before plowing forward. Have no white space can be just as effective in asking the reader to bear with you, this is dense and long but, please trust me, we're going somewhere."
Representing @epiphanylit.bsky.social at the One Story Writers' Conference in NYC. Honored to be quoted on their Instagram! Congrats to @onestorymag.bsky.social for organizing an excellent event.
Here’s the song mashed up with The Bee Gees and Donna Summer. Works in a strange way.

Dog loss seems to what’s on the collective brain/heart of the #writing community here today. Here’s my contribution, an almost-ghost story from Bridge Eight:
“Roscoe lives alone with 35 dogs. … He finds them easy to take care of because they are dead.”

Something I did when I had more free time was make unlikely mashups. This one is Cher X Pink Floyd, which I call “Dark Side of the Moonstruck.” Silly fun.

Paul Baggaley, editor-in-chief of White’s publisher Bloomsbury, said “It is impossible to overstate the importance or influence of his writing, in bringing the gay experience to the widest readership, and always achieved with wit, elegance and sexual candour.”
Very saddened by the news of the death of the iconic Edmund White. A literary lion and a true gay icon who I am proud to have called a friend. 💔
