We are looking at a painting of St Liphardus - a 6th-century lawyer, hermit and abbot in Meung-sur-Loire near Orléans, France. He is wearing bishops clothing including a surplus and mitre and is holding a crook. On a lead is a small knee high green and blue dragon.

We’re very sorry sir but you cannot bring your emotional support dragon in here.

Whydale sold the paintings to raise money for the local Homecoming Fund. Such funds were set up all over the UK at the end of the Second World War to support returning veterans. Whydale's work shows how art can be used to cultivate and support your community.

Today is #WorldArtDay. As this year's theme explores cultivating community through art, we've chosen E.H. Whydale's Homecoming Fund. Collection of 4 paintings in a different style to his usual work; only this one is part of the Museum's collection.

The flag's official use ended in 1801, when the Acts of Union 1800 created the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. The St Patrick's Cross was added to create the current Union Jack flag.

The flag pictured was made in 1953 to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

On 12 April 1606, the first Union Flag was adopted by royal decree of King James VI & I. The flag combined the English and Scottish flags and was intended for maritime use. 101 years later, the flag became the national flag of the unified Kingdom of Great Britain, following the Acts of Union 1707.

On 9 April 1537, Royston Priory was dissolved following Henry VIII's Act of Supremacy. The Priory's possessions were all sold and much of the estate dismantled. This 14th century carving of a knight, believed to to one of the founders of the Priory, can still be seen in Royston Parish Church.

#OnThisDay in 1982, the Royston Bypass opened.

Costing £8 million, the 4 mile stretch of road ran from Baldock Road to Newmarket Road, diverting traffic from the centre of town. Dr Nicolls in his vintage Argyle was the first person to drive down the bypass.
