Political Question doctrine (cases where the US Supreme Court says “we can’t answer that; it’s a political question.”). Fun fact: pre-1962 redistricting was considered a political question.
I remember being pleasantly surprised by The Founder (Ray Kroc).
My “little” brother’s memorial service is today too. He was 54.
DONE! Thanks for the code.
My new strategy is write to provoke the discussions you want to have and to shut down/pre-empt the ones you think are stupid. This is a perennial issue for me because pervasive stupid takes are usually what motivate me to write.
I was a temporary secretary in that Necco Factory for a week or two in the early 80s. Got the gig through an agency whose typing test was a passage about how if you did just an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay, then how would any company make money?!
But presumably a pardon isn’t a “get out of jail free” card. Doesn’t it have to identify specific acts/federal crimes you’re being pardoned for? And wouldn’t any other illegal acts still be subject to prosecution? Such specificity could also assist state prosecutors…
I’m pretty sure he won’t back down…
Classic Easter gift!!
Getting ready to walk over to a patio to have dinner, lol!
Yes, the US Dept of Transportation routinely allocates funds to urban transit systems in cities and counties and there are some years in which some areas ask for and receive large sums for projects they’ve planned. What I’ve been asking for is what Buttigieg did as Secretary that was exceptional.
When both population and GNP are increasing, the fact that one national official spent more on X than all previous holders of the same office is not inherently impressive. Re complete streets, if you have mode shift or fatality/injury data for SB showing consequential changes, post that.
FWIW, I’m a lifelong non-driver and (not surprisingly, given that fact) someone who, as an adult, has alway chosen to live in cities with decent public transit. So I do pay attention to urban and transportation policy and nothing Buttigieg did in either context made a positive impression on me.
No spewing on my part. Just a typo. And curious as to what the OP (whom I respect) thought Buttigieg had accomplished/why thought he’d make a good President.
I hope you’re right about his unelectability, because I’m fairly certain he would not be a good president. He’s basically just a self-promoting debater. What did he accomplish either as Mayor of South Bend or as Secretary of the Treasury?
Oops, *discipline*, lol!
Poli Sci is a disciple with lots of subfields and a variety methodological approaches (and not everything is well-represented everywhere). You might suggest that he look at course offerings and see which department is the best match for his interests.
Got ours last week at a local CVS. Easier to find Novavax this year than in previous Springs.
And this is another function of protests — especially the smaller local ones. Kids (a) ask questions and (b) grow up seeing protest as an option. Witnessing your neighbors protesting expands your own political repertoire in ways that media coverage may not.
And it’s an interior rather than an exterior that could be iconic.

In addition to Gilman and the med school done, maybe Peabody Library?
Time to share some hidden gems?
That said, I can’t tell how much of this is time/place/gender-specific because I went from small-town Midwest (1960s) to suburban SoCal (1970s) to urban DC (mid-1980s —) and from working class to affluent.
When/where I was growing up, fixing a car was a collective enterprise for the neighborhood Dads, so one guy’s skills were a communal resource. (And there were other shared projects/types of expertise). Between hyper-competitiveness, planned obsolescence, and workaholicism, that’s a nonstarter now.
20 yo nephew from CA was blown away by Baltimore last week. Waterfront, Museum of Industry, and American Visionary Art Museum, with subs from DiPasquale’s in between (both temporarily and geographically!) made for a great day trip from DC.
Get vaccinated annually (or 2x a year if possible.) Efficacy decreases after 4-6 months and new variants are targeted each year. (So, for now, treat the COVID vaccine like your annual flu shot). And remember that peak immunity doesn’t kick in for 10-14 days post-vax (so plan ahead, eg for travel)
No college debt, no health care/insurance costs, no transportation costs, no clothing, no wifi/cell phone service or any other utilities. Some of this could be true/explicable, but even on its own terms, this account seems pretty BS.
